Restoring the Recycle Bin Icon

If the recycle bin has been accidentally disabled, Windows will not be able to display it on the desktop screen . So the first thing to do is make sure it hasn't been accidentally disabled. If so, we explain how you can solve the problem.

Click the Start button and select "Settings." Then select the settings for "Personalization" and in the left panel choose "Themes." Next, in the "Related settings" section, click the link " Desktop icon settings ". A list of icons will appear in the “Desktop Icons” window.

Make sure the "Recycle Bin" box is checked. If it isn't, check the box to make the trash icon reappear on the Windows 10 desktop screen.

Recreate the Recycle Bin

If the steps above fail to restore the recycle bin icon, it may have been removed. Therefore, you will have to recreate it. Here we explain how you can do it.

Open Windows File Explorer, select the "View" tab, and choose "Options" on the right. Click the drop-down arrow and select "Change folder and search option."

Next, when the "Folder Options" window appears on your computer screen, switch to the "View" tab, " Show hidden files, folders, and drives " and uncheck the box next to "Hide protected operating system files" before pressing the Apply and OK buttons.

Now, go back to File Explorer and click on 'This PC' on the left of the bar, and then go to the “C:” drive. Here, you will find right at the top a folder called '$ Recycle.Bin' .

Access the contents of this folder and you should see the recycle bin icon .

This will recreate the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop screen.
