Alcatel A3 XL, analysis, price and opinions

Users looking for a terminal with a really large screen are currently difficult. There are few models available, and most belong to the high-end Android range , so their price is within the reach of very few. However, Alcatel has wanted to give these users a cable with the new Alcatel A3 XL , a smartphone with a 6-inch screen , basic technical characteristics and a price that, although it has not been revealed, should be quite affordable. But don't think that being an inexpensive terminal means that it is missing some of the most important features. In addition to the large screen, the new Alcatel terminal offers 4G connectivity ,fingerprint reader and a large capacity battery . We are going to thoroughly review what the Alcatel A3 XL offers us .

Design marked by the big screen

The design of the Alcatel A3 XL is marked by the large screen that we will talk about later. We have a design very similar to other devices of the brand, with rounded lines and three touch buttons placed in the lower part of the front. The back appears to sport a plastic casing with a rough feel, although the material used has not yet been officially revealed. In its smooth design, only the camera lens and a circle that hides the fingerprint reader stands out.. The fingerprint recognition feature allows you to unlock your smartphone with a single touch, but it also helps you answer calls, take photos, encrypt documents and quickly access other applications. Surrounding the body of the terminal we have a frame that can be of different colors, at least in the white version of the device.

The full dimensions of the Alcatel A3 XL  are  165 x 82.5 x 7.9 mm and, according to the photos provided by the company, the terminal will be available in color , black with edges silver , and white edges with different colors , such as blue, pink or yellow.

As for the screen, the Alcatel A3 XL offers IPS panel 6 inch FL and HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels . We understand that the company has tried to reduce the price of the terminal as much as possible, but, in the absence of seeing it live, we think that with such a large screen, at least a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels should have been used. We will have to wait for a thorough test to check how the screen performs for daily use of the terminal or, above all, to see multimedia content on it, one of the most interesting functions when we talk about terminals with such large screens.

Very simple technical set

Although the price of the Alcatel A3 XL is still unknown, the company has been determined to make it clear that it will be very low. Proof of this is the set that we find inside the device. We have a MT8735B processor with four cores running at 1.1 GHz . Accompanying this processor we find 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, which we can expand using a microSD card of up to 32 GB capacity.

At the connectivity level, we have the usual in any terminal, such as WiFi 802.11 b / g / n compatible with WiFi direct , GPS ,  Bluetooth 4.2 and a jack connector for audio. The company has decided to keep the Micro USB 2.0 connector with USB OTG and not move on to what will be the standard for next year, USB Type-C. Most likely, the intention of the company has been to lower costs to launch the terminal with a price that is as competitive as possible. In terms of autonomy, the Alcatel A3 XL incorporates a 3,000 milliamp battery, which, taking into account the low resolution of the screen and the processor, should give a quite acceptable autonomy.

Photographic section without many pretensions

The photographic section follows the line of the rest of the characteristics, with a fairly simple set but enough for users who need to take a sporadic photo. As the main chamber Alcatel A3 XL incorporates a sensor 13 megapixel camera that comes with an autofocus system and an LED flash . The camera is capable of recording video in 720 resolution at 30fps and is compatible with HDR photographs . The camera also incorporates a 4x digital zoom .

As for the front camera is a 8 megapixel sensor capable of capturing video at the same resolution as the front chamber, ie 720p at 30 fps . In addition, the terminal comes with a wide range of applications to help enhance and personalize photos and albums, such as "Face Beauty", "Face Play" and "Face Show" .

Price and availability

In short, a very simple terminal in technical specifications but that surprises with a giant 6-inch screen and that, according to data published by the company, will arrive with Android 7.0 Nougat as standard, something to be appreciated. The price of the Alcatel A3 XL  is currently just under 170 euros in the main stores. The phone has been available in Europe since the second quarter of 2017 .
