Moving applications and data from an old mobile to a new one seems every time to migrate information from one computer to another computer. And it is that despite the fact that Android and iOS have their own tools to migrate information from one mobile to another, the truth is that they are somewhat limited. Some manufacturers choose to develop their own solutions, as is the case with Samsung and Huawei. From an Android mobile to another Android
If we are going to port the data from an Android mobile to another phone with the same operating system, the process is quite simple. We can resort to different options, although the simplest is to use Google's own tool.
Via google
Google's option is the most reliable and least intrusive of all, since we will not have to resort to third-party applications. In fact, the system will ask us if we want to configure the phone as new or restore a backup copy of an already configured phone. This option will appear when you start the phone for the first time, so we will not have to use the Android settings.
To restore the data with the last backup stored on Google servers we will have to use the same account on both phones. The application will then show us different backups by device and date. It is recommended to select the most recent copy. Now the phone will start to restore with the following data:
- Call History.
- Applications and application data (accounts, settings ...).
- Device settings (wallpaper, saved WiFi networks, paired Bluetooth devices…).
With third party applications
Today there are dozens of applications to transfer data from a mobile to a new one. Coincidentally, the ones that Google's own store recommends are those of the telephone manufacturers themselves. Oppo Clone Phone by Oppo, Phone Clone by Huawei, Samsung Smart Switch Mobile by Samsung ...
We can also use third-party tools, such as CLONEit or Copy My Data. However, from tuexperto.com we strongly recommend making use of the official solutions. First, for security reasons, and second, for simple ease of use, since the process is usually similar in all applications. Phone Clone is the application that we will use on this occasion. Huawei's solution allows us to port data from an Android to a Huawei, from a Huawei to another Huawei and from an iPhone to a Huawei.
The process for pairing two phones is extremely simple. With the application installed on the two terminals, we will start the tool on the phone that we want to configure to select the export parameters. Finally, the application will generate a QR code that we will have to scan with the old phone to start the export. The data that we can select are the following:
- Contacts, text messages and call history.
- Notes, voice recordings and calendar events.
- Photos, music and videos.
- Documents and files.
WhatsApp backups
The greatest concern of users when changing mobile has to do with WhatsApp backups. There are two ways to transfer a WhatsApp backup from one mobile to another. The first and most recommended depends entirely on Google Drive. The second, from the files that the application itself generates in the phone's internal memory.
If we opt for this last method, we highly recommend taking a look at this other article where we explain the process in detail. In case of choosing the Google Drive method, the process is very simple. In order not to lose any messages in the synchronization process, we recommend making a final backup of WhatsApp on the old mobile phone before entering the access data on another mobile.
To force the synchronization of a backup in WhatsApp we will have to go to Settings / Chats / Backup. Within Backup, we will click on Save to make a new backup on the Google Drive servers.
Once we have made the backup we will change the phone SIM card and follow the usual process to register the phone number in WhatsApp. If everything goes as it should, WhatsApp will propose to restore the last recorded backup.
Photos, videos and multimedia elements in general
If we have thousands of photos and videos on our old mobile, it is likely that the manufacturers' solutions seem slow and inefficient. The fastest and most reliable solution is Google Photos, not only because it uses our Google account, but also because it duplicates photos and videos at a slightly lower quality than the original quality of the multimedia elements. This helps improve import and export times.
To make a backup copy of Google Photos on our mobile we will have to download the application of the same name. Once started, the application itself will propose to make a backup. We can also use Settings / Backups and restoration to find this option. Of course, the synchronization process can take several hours, depending on the number of photos and videos.
If we want to restore the backup on another device we will have to follow the same process that we have just explained.
From an Android mobile to an iPhone
Until recently it was not possible to transfer information from an Android mobile to an iPhone. Today it is possible through a native Apple solution.
Can it be done from Google?
The process to pass the information from one Android mobile to another using Google synchronization will not help us with an iPhone. The only solution is to go to Google Drive and copy the files that we want to transfer to the iPhone manually. It is not an agile process nor is it recommended, but the option is there.
Through third party applications
Just a couple of years ago Apple designed an application that allows us to easily export data from an Android mobile to an iPhone as long as they are both connected to the same WiFi network . The tool in question is called Move to iOS. It can be downloaded for free from the Play Store.

The process to migrate the data is relatively straightforward. The first thing we will have to do is configure the iPhone with the pertinent user data. During the configuration process a tab will appear with the name Applications and data. Within this tab we will select the option to Transfer data from Android to begin the import process.
With the Move to iOS application open on our Android mobile, we will accept the terms and conditions of use; It will automatically generate an access code that we will have to enter in the iPhone configuration screen .
The application will then begin to migrate all the data from the old phone to the iPhone. The data that Apple allows to cross are the following:
- Contacts and message history.
- Photos and videos from the camera.
- Favorite websites, email accounts and calendar events.
- Free applications (paid ones will have to be purchased again from the Apple App Store).
WhatsApp copies from Android to iPhone
We regret to say that there is no possible way to transfer a WhatsApp backup from iPhone to Android .
How to see the screen of an Android mobile on a computer
This is because Apple uses iCloud to synchronize all the data from WhatsApp conversations. Nor can we do a manual restoration , since iOS does not allow access to the internal memory of the iPhone. It is true that there are desktop tools that promise to migrate WhatsApp data from an iPhone to an Android, but they are usually paid programs and of dubious quality.
Options to pass my photos and videos
The simplest process is to use the Move to iOS application. The tool will transfer all videos and photos from Android Gallery to iOS Camera Roll . We can also use Google Photos. In this case the process is similar to the one we have detailed in previous sections.
From an iPhone to an Android mobile
If we are going to transfer the data from an iPhone to an Android phone, things can get a bit more complicated when we are faced with two totally different operating systems. This does not mean that it is impossible, although it is something more tedious than transferring information from an Android mobile to another Android or from an iPhone to another iPhone.
Can the data be transferred directly from Apple?
The truth is that no. There are some programs that allow you to port data from iPhone to Android, but most are usually paid . The reason is that iOS drinks from iCloud for backups, while Google uses Google Drive to sync Android data.
One option would be to use the Google Drive options to import manually, although it can be a long and tedious process.
And through third-party apps?
Using third-party applications is the only option we have if we want to transfer data from an iPhone to an Android mobile. As with Android, the safest and most recommendable option is to use the manufacturers' own applications , such as Huawei Phone Clone or Samsung Smart Switch Mobile from Samsung.
Most of these options allow us to migrate iPhone data to an Android mobile. The data that we can restore depends on the application we use . Phone Clone, for example, allows you to export the following data:
- Contacts, text messages and call history.
- Notes, voice recordings and calendar events.
- Photos, music and videos.
- Documents and files.
And the backup of WhatsApp?
Unfortunately, WhatsApp backup is not transferable from iPhone to Android for the reasons we have detailed above.

As always, the most transparent option for the user and the simplest at the same time is Google Drive. If this option falls short of us, either due to the quality of the photos or the synchronization times, we can use the iTunes export options . In this article we explain how to perform this export manually on both Windows and Mac.
We must bear in mind that iTunes has disappeared on Mac in the latest version of the operating system, so we will have to resort to the Photos application . In any case, the process boils down to exporting the photos from the iPhone to iTunes and then storing them on the computer's hard drive. Then we will transfer all the multimedia elements to the DCIM folder of the internal storage of the Android phone.
From one iPhone to another iPhone
The process to transfer information from one iPhone to another is the simplest of all, since it does not require any external application and performs a complete export of all system data . And when we say complete, it is complete: messages, applications, calls, data, WhatsApp conversations.
The advantage of iOS over Android is that the synchronization is done in a single step, that is, we will not have to access the iOS applications one by one to restore the data independently. Of course, by depending on iCloud we will have to make sure we have enough cloud storage. We will also have to make sure we have a version equal to or greater than iOS 12.4 .
