HP Deskjet 2540

The operation of home printers has changed little in recent years, their handling yes, quite a lot. The HP Deskjet 2540 is an example of what a network connected printer can do . The printing process is already much more than a cable and a computer .

The most interesting functions come from the hand of the WiFi connection . With the printer connected to our home network, printing files is greatly simplified, especially when we do it from our mobile or tablet . But connectivity is not expensive at first . The HP Laserjet 2540 is a cheap printer, aimed at the home market , so the pocketbook does not suffer too much because it has gained new functions.

At Tuexperto.com we have made a unit to test everything that can be done with it, so we are going to see its results step by step.

Printing and paper

The HP Deskjet 2540 is a home printer, so printing speed is not one of your priorities in principle. Even so, it has good values in printing text pages , compared to other printers in this segment and price. You can print new pages per minute for black and white documents, and six pages per minute for color text documents.

Although it is ready to print in color text and photos, it is in the printing of black and white texts that the  HP Deskjet 2540 achieves its best results. According to HP it takes 17 seconds to print the first sheet and 8.5 in the following. In the test carried out by Tuexperto.com , the result is even a little better, with 16 seconds for the first page and just over 7 for the following.

When it comes to photo printing, the numbers are a bit more discreet. The HP Deskjet 2540 takes one minute to print a 10 x 15 cm photo, while for a full page (A4) photo, it will take two minutes and 30 seconds.

It is not a printer designed for heavy use like you might have in an office. However, for domestic needs it seems that it holds up well the pace that we usually demand of these teams. HP recommends an average of 300 to 400 pages per month, and in no case exceed 1,000 pages per month.

Print quality is another point where the HP Deskjet 2540 performs quite decently for an entry-level model. For black and white, the resolution stays at 600 x 600 dpi , while for color image prints they reach 4,800 x 1,200 dpi .

Design and interface

The design of the  HP Deskjet 2540 quite simple, in line with the printers that we usually find in homes and small offices. The model is white and with a matte finish, with the few physical buttons at the top. We find a small LED indicator that shows us values such as the number of pending pages or warnings about ink availability.

One of the advantages of this equipment is that it hardly needs cables. Being managed by WiFi, in the back we only find a power outlet and a USB port , which once the printer is configured is unnecessary.

The HP Deskjet 2540 is quite small, as expected from a computer that has to fit at home or in small offices. It weighs three and a half kilos, so it is not too complicated to transport if necessary.

Copy and Scan

The  HP Deskjet 2540 is a multifunction printer, so in addition to printing, it is capable of scanning and copying documents. In this case with even more interesting functions, since it is not necessary to have a computer turned on next to the printer to carry out these tasks, but they can be carried out through the mobile or tablet.

When it comes to scan quality, the  HP Deskjet 2540 can output 1,200 x 1,200 dpi images , so you have no problem in principle digitizing images as photos without losing quality. As regards direct copy, it generates a resolution of 600 x 300 dpi in both black and white and color images. It can make about five copies per minute.

Mobile printing and connectivity

This is the most interesting point of the  HP Deskjet 2540. From our mobile or tablet we can control the printer, scan documents or manage the print queue in the same way as we do with a computer, but in a simpler and faster way.

Of course, there is also the possibility of operating the equipment from the computer via the WiFi connection and the USB cable. In this case, the printer is on the home network and can be used from any computer that is connected to it.

But mobile phones and tablets are also connected to this network, and that is where the interesting thing about this team is. To use them, you need to download an application. It's called HP All-in-One remote , and from its control panel we can scan documents, make copies or send to print without the need for more gadgets. In fact, the files don't even need to be generated by a computer. The most interesting thing about this use is to print photographs that we have taken with the mobile camera, which go to the printer without further intermediaries.

Therefore, it becomes a model that attracts attention within the range of entry printers, the most basic on the market.
