How to disable automatic screen brightness in Windows 8 and Windows 10

Automatic brightness in Windows 10

Microsoft is aware of the importance of the battery today, with the launch of many computers designed for use on the road and on the go. The company has wanted to do its bit to increase the time of use with a functionality that incorporates both Windows 8 and Windows 10 . It is about automatically regulating the brightness of the screen according to the ambient light conditions. But what is intended as an aid to your use of the device can become a real one when you change the position of the equipment. We tell you the steps you must follow to deactivate this function and regain control over the brightness of the panel.

In Windows 8 , to change this function you have to go to the configuration of the Metro interface. The first thing we do is drag the mouse to one of the corners on the right side of the screen and then click on "Settings" . Again we have to click on the option that appears in the lower area of the strip with the title "Change PC settings". The menu that interests us is the first "PC and devices" . One of the options is "Shutdown and sleep" . Within this menu we have a brightness submenu in which you can disable the "Automatically adjust screen brightness" function.

If we are not clear with the Windows 8 settings, this feature can also be accessed from the desktop. To do this, you have to press on the battery button on the taskbar. Then we click on "More energy options". Among the available power plans, choose one of them and then “Change plan settings”. In the next screen we see some basic options to decide when the screen turns off or the computer goes to sleep. Here we have to click on "Change advanced power settings" and we will see a small window with many options. The one that interests us is "Enable adaptive brightness".So that Windows does not automatically change the brightness of the computer, these options must be disabled.

In Windows 10 access to this feature is easier. To do this, first click on the Windows button and then on the "Settings" option . Within the submenus we choose the first option "System". The first window that appears is the one that has to do with the screen and among the available options is the one to “Adjust the brightness of my screen automatically” . By the way, for some reason my computer automatically detected two screens (even if it was not connected to a television or monitor), so it did not allow me to configure this feature. The solution is to choose the "Show only in 1" mode within the "Multiple screens" drop-down.

In principle, these settings should work without problems. If all the above does not work, we can also right-click on the desktop window, "Graphics properties", "Energy" and finally deactivate the screen energy saving technology.
