In the mobile phone binge that we are experiencing this week, it is the turn of the second of the terminals that Sony Ericsson will take to the nearby Mobile World Congress in Barcelona . It is the Sony Ericsson W395 , a phone also specialized like the C903 , but in this case not in photography, but in music . For a reason it bears the Walkman logo , the name of the Sony music players of today and yesterday.

With a sliding keyboard and manageable measurements ( 96 grams of weight and 14.9 mm thickness ), the Sony Ericsson W395 is characterized by simplicity in almost all its functions. It has a discreet two-inch screen (176 x 320 pixels) , a simple two-megapixel camera without flash and it is not even a 3G terminal (it does not have a video call), among other aspects. But the situation improves a little in his musical possibilities.

As we can see in the images, it has several keys dedicated especially to music reproduction , going through the traditional controls on the front of the phone. It also has a volume control on the side , just above the camera's shutter button , and in addition to playing MP3 music, it can tune into the FM radio . The musical part is finished off with integrated stereo speakers and headphones with a stereo amplifier , which according to the firm offer a little more quality compared to the usual pair of headphones that usually comes in the box of every phone.

It is a pity that the terminal does not have a universal headphone output , although it is foreseeable that the sales package includes the classic 3.5 mm minijack adapter . In the field of entertainment, the Sony Ericsson W395 incorporates a motion sensor , applicable in intuitive video games such as those we saw in the Sony Ericsson F305 . Its internal memory is only 10 MB and the terminal only accepts Memory Stick Micro cards , but at least it will come standard with a 1 GB card inside the box .

As we said before, its equipment is quite simple. Hence, it can only connect to the Internet by the slow GPRS standard . At least, in the wireless part it has Bluetooth with A2DP profile , the most widespread standard among wireless headphones and hands-free car kits . Its maximum autonomy is eight hours of conversation , 480 hours of standby and , being a music phone, 12.5 hours of playback .

It will be available during the first quarter of the year (that is, soon) and with two different finishes: gray and silver . In Sony Ericsson he says that it is the "most affordable Walkman phone with slide opening to date" . It has not yet provided an indicative price, but the truth is that, due to its characteristics, it is a firm candidate to become the classic terminal that operators give away or almost give away in exchange for a registration contract.
