A scam on WhatsApp promises free Nike sneakers for its anniversary

One more day, cybercriminals use the world's most used instant messaging application to try to sneak one of their scams. And, as always, it is very tempting. Maybe too much. Too much, of course, to be true. On this occasion, the message ensures that you will receive one of the 5,000 pairs of Nike shoes for free for their anniversary . The prestige of Nike: we cannot miss the opportunity to wear some classic shoes that usually have a high cost in store.

No, Nike is not giving away sneakers

Very recently, another scam was present in our lives through WhatsApp. This time it was a much more miserable ruse, as he played with the bread we earn every day. And the matter worsens, taking into account the unemployment situation in which our country is plunged. According to the scam, if we filled out a questionnaire, we would directly access a job interview. The position, however, would be ours. They were, so to speak, giving away a job. Obviously, it was a lie.

The scam that stars in today's article is less bloody, but just as damaging if we fall into their networks. This is a little elaborate scam, there are no images of the shoes or a text assuring that there is no trap or cardboard. Only a text and a web address appear. The text ensures that Nike is giving away sneakers due to its anniversary. Lie. To do this, we must click on the address and fill out a form. The data they ask for are the name and surname, email and telephone number. This data will be used, of course, to fill your mail with spam. It is not something too alarming, it is not card information, but still nobody should have your email unless you want.

Never click on unknown links

It goes without saying, we suppose, to warn you that you should never click on websites that claim to give you items. Or travel. Or any other item that is free. Again we say that brands never offer anything for free and, if they do, it will be samples or something of little value. If the offer is too tempting to be true, it almost certainly is not.

You can avoid falling into these traps if, in advance, you search the Internet for information on the offer. With a simple search of the terms 'Nike + sneakers + free' we will know that it is a trap, a lie. Whether the company is called Nike or Ray-Ban, they will not give anything away unless it is through official channels, such as their own websites.

Never share, under any circumstances, this type of message. The only thing that you provoke is that a little more naive people create them and take their data. And that these, in turn, share them, creating a chain that is difficult to stop . You have to keep a cool mind and stop to look at the message before deciding to share it. The same thing happens with fake news: the Internet is full of them and little by little we are seeing the pernicious reach they have.

The next time you receive a WhatsApp scam, tell your contacts  not to share it or open the link. Only we have the power to gradually eliminate these scams, even if there are some very sophisticated and, why not say it, quite gracefully.
