This year LG wants to bring OLED technology to more homes. And one model that could achieve this is the LG OLED B8, the entry model to the OLED range of 2018 . Although the company has made some concessions to lower its cost, we will continue to have the excellent image quality that OLED technology offers.
Actually, the big difference between the LG OLED B8 and its bigger sisters like the LG OLED C8 is its image processor. LG has decided to place the Alpha 7 processor instead of the Alpha 9. Otherwise, the ThinQ artificial intelligence system, compatibility with up to 5 HDR systems and even Dolby Atmos sound are maintained .

Alpha 7 processor
As we said, the LG OLED B8 maintains all the benefits of OLED panels. That is, it has a pure black that provides an almost infinite contrast .
However, there is a very important difference compared to higher-end models, such as the LG OLED E8. The processor included in this model is the Alpha 7 . We could say that it is a shortened version of the Alpha 9.
It is a 12-bit chip, offering LUT17x17x17 color accuracy . It uses Local Dimming (as opposed to its older brother's Pixel Dimming) and performs an analysis by zones and frame instead of by objects .
Lastly, it features a 2-layer noise removal process, instead of 4 layers . But this does not prevent the LG OLED B8 from being compatible with HFR images at 120 fps . In addition, it is capable of working with up to 5 HDR formats , including Dolby Vision, Technicolor and HLG systems.
Dolby Atmos sound and good connectivity
Despite being the entry model, the LG OLED B8 has Dolby Atmos sound . This system captures the movement of the object in a realistic way and achieves a 360-degree surround sound.
The TV is equipped with a sound system with 2.2 channels and a total power of 40W. In addition to being compatible with Dolby Atmos, it is also capable of working with DTS sound .
In terms of connectivity, we have 4 HDMI 2.0 inputs , 3 USB ports, a digital optical output, a LAN input and a headphone output.
Known design with ThinQ system
The LG OLED B8 is, perhaps, the model that has the most similarities at the design level with last year's models . LG has maintained a wedge-shaped metal base, located in the central part of the television. A design inherited from the LG OLED C7.
Its rear is also very similar, although this has not changed much in the other models either. A very thin upper area is maintained , with a nice metallic finish. And a lower area, thicker, which houses all the electronics of the television.
Yes we will see changes in the Smart TV system, since the LG OLED B8 has webOS 4.0 . This version includes LG's ThinQ artificial intelligence system.
With ThinQ we can "talk" to the TV to easily access any content or function. In addition, we can ask you questions about the weather or the actor who appears on TV.
Price and availability
For now, the LG OLED B8 is the manufacturer's most "mysterious" model. Although we know its characteristics, neither in Spain nor in the North American market is the launch date or price yet known .
Nor do we know in which diagonals it will arrive in our country. Only the 55-inch model appears on the Spanish website . But on the United States page it also has a 65-inch model. We will keep you informed as soon as we know the official data.
