Presented by Canon as its slimmest and most powerful super zoom camera yet, the new PowerShot SX720 HS has just seen the light of day and we have already had a first contact with it to share our impressions. It is a compact traveler with an optical zoom of no less than 40x that can be carried in your pocket thanks to a body that is only 35.6 millimeters thick. It incorporates a sensor CMOS two - thirds of an inch and 20.3 megapixels and can record videos as Full HD .

Design
The new PowerShot SX720 HS has a fairly discreet design… as long as we don't opt for the red finish. It belongs to the first range of super zoom cameras, which are still confused with the normal compact ones. Of course, when looking at it more carefully, the diameter of the objective and especially the 40x inscription reveal that we are facing something a little more serious. The front panel features a grip with a rough surface that improves ergonomics and allows a firm hold to minimize vibrations. On the rear panel, in addition to the classic four-way pad and the buttons for menu, playback, etc., we will find a wheel to select the mode or scene that we want to use. The screen is not touch or articulated, but is aboutthree inches and a good resolution of 922,000 dots .

characteristics
Of course, the main feature of the new PowerShot SX720 HS is its zoom of 40x . With a focal length equivalent to a 24-960 mm and a ZoomPlus mode that increases its range up to 80x , this zoom allows us to reach far away scenes or subjects. The SX720 HS also has aids such as the Advanced Zoom Framing Assist system, which zooms in or out depending on the number of people in the scene to get a good framing of group photos. Also, the Image Stabilizer is helpful, especially when using the long end of the zoom. In terms of shooting modes, in addition to the typical automatic and manual modes, the PowerShot SX720 HS includes different scenes and filters, as well as a creative mode that creates five different effects from the image we have captured.
In the video chapter, this new PowerShot SX allows you to record movies in Full HD at up to 60 frames per second with added stability thanks to its vibration reduction system that acts on five axes . The Short Video mode allows us to select clips of four, five or six seconds with various playback modes that include slow motion and double speed , and thanks to the MF Peaking focus highlighting function we can focus in manual mode with the maximum possible sharpness .
Connectivity
Finally, and at the connectivity level, the PowerShot SX720 HS adds a WiFi port to the USB and micro HDMI outputs to be able to share our photos and videos with smartphones and tablets without having to connect any cables between them. The link between the devices can be done through an NFC point , so it is only necessary to make the teams contact each other for a moment. Finally, the connection is managed by Canon's Camera Connect app , which also allows us to remotely control the camera.
