But do you know how to update your Nokia Lumia 520 to Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Cyan ? We tell you how to do it, below.

Step 1. Prepare your Nokia Lumia 520 for the update .

1) First of all, you need to make sure that your Nokia Lumia 520 is ready to host the update. Have the device's battery fully charged or at least up to  80% of its capacity.

2) Make room on your phone. Remember that the update has a considerable weight , so it will be necessary that you have a large enough memory so as not to suffer any collapse. The most recommended thing is that you have around 1.5 GB of free memory . In that case you can do it without problems. Check the remaining space by accessing the Settings> Sensor / Storage control section .

If you don't have enough space, it will be necessary to delete content or transfer information to the cloud . In this way, you can continue to enjoy all the space you need to save more files and, most importantly, install the update without problems .

3) Connect to a WiFi network that can provide you stability. Remember that the download is quite heavy and that by connecting to a wireless network you can save a good spike in your data connection and avoid any unexpected cuts.

Step 2. Make a backup of your contents.

1) Each new update is a process that can involve dangers. Any failure can ruin the configuration that each user has saved , as well as the contents that are stored in the memory of the terminal. For this reason, it would be recommended that you make a backup copy (configuration, text messages, photos, videos ...).

2) Within the Home screen , swipe left and select the Settings button > Backup .

3) Log into your Microsoft account . If you don't have it yet, the system will invite you to create a new one. You can do it in a few minutes.

4) Next, the system will ask you to select how and what content you want to backup. There you can include all the information you want, except for downloaded applications.

5) Remember to be connected to a WiFi network , since it is the most recommended when making backup copies of videos and photos in optimal quality. If you need to save other types of content (we are referring specifically to music) you will need to use the Windows Phone desktop application or Windows Explorer.

Step 3. Check for the update.

1) Once the update is available in Spain , you should receive a notice on its availability in your terminal inviting you to download. When you receive it, you can start the update or defer the process for when you have more time.

2) If you do not receive the notification message, you can be patient and wait a bit or go to the section corresponding to the updates to check if it is really available . All you have to do is go to Settings> Phone update .

3) When you find the update and have followed all the steps recommended above, your Nokia Lumia 520 will be ready to receive the data package corresponding to Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Cyan . At this point we want to remind you that the update will be done via OTA (Over The Air) or Through the Air , which means that it will not be necessary to connect the phone with cables to your computer.

Step 4. Update your Nokia Lumia 520 to Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Cyan.

1) Once the data packet is retrieved, your phone will connect directly to the Microsoft Devices servers to download. Please be patient and wait. Do not try to stop the process at any time, since any interruption could have fatal consequences for your smartphone .

2) Once the download has been accepted, you only have to follow the instructions offered by the system. The update process will start with the largest data packet: Windows Phone 8.1 , which could last for 30-45 minutes . However, considering the nature of this update, it would not be surprising if the process could take up to two long hours . It is precisely for this reason that we recommend that you perform the update at a time when you are calm and do not need to use the phone at all.

3) But as we said, this update consists of two parts . After the first, a second download will begin that will be automatically checked by the phone. In fact, it is quite possible that the Nokia Lumia 520 needs a series of smaller updates to get certain functions of the phone in place.

4) Follow all the notifications carefully and don't be alarmed if the Nokia Lumia 520 restarts multiple times. It is totally normal and necessary for the integration of this new software to take effect.
