Direct Full Array Plus System
The main difference between the models at the top of Samsung's QLED range is the lighting system they use. Luckily, this year we will have full-frame lighting on more models than ever.
The Samsung QLED Q80R has Direct Full Array Plus , compared to the Direct Full Array Premium or Direct Full Array Elite of the Q85R and Q90R models respectively. As we have mentioned on occasion, the difference between them will be the individual lighting zones they include. However, Samsung has not provided this information.
Along with this system we find the Quantum 4K processor with Artificial Intelligence . This is capable of enhancing the image and sound to 4K quality in real time from any source. In addition, for some years now, QLED televisions have been able to display 100% color volume thanks to Quantum Dot technology.
On the other hand, the Samsung QLED Q80R is also equipped with Q HDR 1500 technology . This allows you to create deep contrasts and amplify brightness, with a maximum brightness of no less than 1,500 nits. Also, like its older brothers, it supports the new HDR10 + format .
There is no lack of Ultra Viewing Angle technology , which improves viewing angles considerably compared to last year's QLED models.
Smarter Smart TV
If we opt for the Samsung QLED Q80R we will also have access to the latest version of Samsung's Smart TV system. Now the Universal Guide system includes recommendations of the programs and contents of the services to which we are subscribed or PPV services.
In addition, the new models feature Samsung's Bixby assistant . This will allow us to control the television with our voice. But also ask all kinds of information, just like we do on mobile.
Along with Bixby, this year Samsung QLED TVs also include support for Alexa and the Google Assistant . We can pair the TV with the different smart speakers without the need for additional adapters.
Although we will not have the same functionality that Samsung's own assistant offers us, with Alexa and the Google Assistant we can turn on the TV, change the channel or control the volume and playback.
Neither is connectivity with Samsung's SmartThings system missing this year . Thanks to the integration of this system, the TV will become the center of our smart home. From it we can control all connected devices and appliances.
The Samsung QLED Q80R also includes one of the novelties that was introduced last year. The Ambient Mode will be present with the same modes but with new images.
News in the gaming section
Samsung has put a lot of interest in improving the gaming experience of users who opt for its models this year. The new QLEDs include AMD's FreeSync (VRR) technology . This reduces the input latency and avoids the problems of jumps in the image if we have an AMD graphics.
In addition, according to Samsung, the imput lag of the panels has been reduced again to obtain a better response.
Another novelty that the Samsung QLED Q80R includes is the "Game Enhancer" . It is a system that includes a Dynamic Black Equalizer for better visibility in the dark. In addition, it employs detailed scene analysis to optimize image quality. It also enhances the sound so that the feeling of immersion in the game is superior.
Price and availability
The Samsung QLED Q80R thus becomes a great alternative for those who are looking for a TV with Direct Full Array lighting but have a somewhat tighter budget. And it is that this model is cheaper than its older brothers , despite the fact that it offers similar characteristics.
At the moment, on the Samsung website we can only find this model available in 55 and 65 inches . So everything seems to indicate that to get a bigger diagonal we will have to opt for the superior models.
Price wise, the 55-inch Samsung QLED Q80R will be launched with an official price of 2,000 euros . If we want the 65-inch model we will have to pay 2,500 euros . It is not that it is a cheap TV, but we must bear in mind that it offers the latest technology from the Korean manufacturer.
