The MP3 has definitely entered the mobile . The latest study by The Phone House indicates that 54.02% of Spanish fans buy phones with music and that more and more people prefer to listen to songs from their mobile . With these users in mind, Nokia created its Xpress Music family . At tuexperto.com we have reviewed terminals such as the 5700 or events such as the presentation of the Nokia Music Store online store . Along with this announcement, the family of musical mobiles increased with two new models that will arrive in Spain in January. The most striking is this Nokia 5310 Xpress Music that we have in hand.
Finite and compact
The Nokia 5310 is a one-piece mobile phone , with an ultra-thin design (less than 1 cm thick ) and light (just 70 grams ). The keyboard and the control wheel are below the 2-inch screen , while to its left are three dedicated keys for music and video. And everything ismounted on an aluminum frame that surrounds the front, mixing gray with red or blue (to suit the consumer).
It is presented as an easy-to-use mobile. In addition to having multimedia keys next to the screen, we find a direct volume control on the left side and the typical functions in all Nokia mobiles .
Musical and lasting heart
What stands out in this Xpress Music is not your operating system (one sencillito Symbian S40 ) or internal memory (only 30 megs , it is essential to use memory card microSD ) and the camera (the just: 2 - megapixel ). What's more, it is not even a 3G with a video calling function and fast Internet connection. His true vocation is music (it happens the same as the guys from Operación Triunfo ).
It is designed to combine the telephone function with that of a portable music player, for which it has a special audio chip that offers remarkable sound quality for such a small equipment. Another advantage of this Nokia 5310 is that it takes taken directly to headphone jack 3.5 mm .
And one of the best surprises that the mobile has brought us is its autonomy. As a player it is around 8 pm (deactivating the telephone function). Keeping the phone active at all times and making average use of the player (a couple of hours of music during the day and a little radio at night), this terminal can hold up perfectly for almost three whole days without recharging .
To interact with other devices, we have Bluetooth (hands-free, headphones, file sending ...) and a microUSB port designed to connect by cable to a PC, and thus manage songs and videos with the Windows player program (Windows Media Player ) or the manufacturer's own application, Nokia PC Suite .
Who wants a Nokia 5310 Xpress Music?
This amateur mobile seduces young man listening to music or radio and looking for a stylish mobile, minimalist design and autonomy . It is not for that small percentage of very demanding users. And it is that it carries a basic camera and does not come with Symbian S60 , the operating system used by advanced Nokia phones ( N95 8GB , 6110 Navigator , N82 …).
Strengths
Nowadays we can find musical mobiles with ultra-thin design and sound quality similar to those of this Xpress Music , such as the Samsung F300 or the Sony Ericsson W880i . But the list is reduced if we also look for the direct headphone input (3.5 mm) and a battery that really responds . And it is further reduced when talking about prices: this Nokia will be sold for 270 euros (free) , so we can find interesting offers by resorting to operator financing.
On the other hand, Nokia is also preparing a range of desktop accessories for the new Xpress Music , manufactured by firms such as Altec Lansing or Philips (which has already done so with the Philips SBA ). We have had the opportunity to test a JBL model that recharges the battery and amplifies the songs of this Nokia 5310 , and the overall result is excellent.
It can improve
This Xpress Music is aimed at very specific functions and comply with good note, but had not been wrong an a little more ambitious camera (the 2 - megapixel us start short stay) and the ability to make video calls . Any type of person, including the audience of this phone, may want to take a good photo from time to time or make a video call, if only for fun.
At least these two points for improvement are compensated with a reasonable price. And indeed, the other new Xpress Music ( Nokia 5610 ) features a higher quality camera and the ability to include video in calls, but raising the price and forgoing the ultra-slim design. In the next few days we will analyze it thoroughly.
