Microsoft wanted to update its Office office tools with a more attractive interface. One of the most important changes that the latest versions of this suite of office automation tools have received has been the presence of the Ribbon toolbar, in which the large icons stand out. Many users have criticized this new bar for considering it less intuitive and functional. One of the interesting options included in programs like the new Word 2013 or Excel 2013 is the ability to customize this toolbar. We tell you how to manage the Ribbon bar in Word or Excel in a few steps.
The Ribbon interface is the toolbar that appears at the top of the latest versions of Office . This large icon interface has also been displayed in the Windows 8 operating system explorer . To customize the ribbon in Word or Excel , you have to press the right button of the mouse on this top bar within the office program. We can choose both the icons that will appear in this bar and the shortcuts that appear in the upper left area of the screen. The option to configure the bar is "Customize the Ribbon".
On the left side we can see a list of all the commands that the program has. In the drop-down menu at the top we can choose to divide the commands between the most used or those that are not within the toolbar. On the right side we have a drop-down menu with the main tabs that the program has. One of the limitations that this option has is that we can only add new commands in the custom tabs that we have created. To add one of these tabs we press the "New tab" button.
The tab in question will be added within the displayed menu. To personalize the name, right click on the tab and then "Change name". Within each tab you have to establish a series of custom groups (the boxes into which each tab is divided). To create the different groups, click with the right button of the mouse on the name of the tab and then on the option "Add new group" . The way to customize the name of the group is again by right-clicking on its name. To add the commands, we choose one from the list on the left and then on the "Add" option .
We can change the placement of the tabs and groups by holding them down and then dragging along the menu. If what we want is to completely customize the functions that will be inside the toolbar, the way to remove the preconfigured options is by clicking on the box where an arrow is displayed. All the tabs that do not have the box marked will temporarily disappear from the toolbar (to make them reappear, just click on the box).
On the other hand, to configure the shortcuts that will appear above this toolbar, we click with the right button at the top and then on the option "Customize quick access toolbar".
