In March of this year we echoed a Spanish company that, on a small scale, presented a very similar business model to the all-powerful IKEA. Its name is Muebles Lufe and it is located in Azpeitia, Gipuzkoa. Lufe is actually an acronym. They are 4 words that define, essentially, what they consider a job well done. 'Local', 'Universal', 'Functional' and 'Ecological'. The 4 bases on which this furniture factory is based, which saw how, overnight, its success grew like foam. Thanks, of course, to the media.
Muebles Lufe or may success make things difficult for you
'The Basque Ikea', as a hook invented by the media, is indisputable. The process of buying furniture at a great price, even if you have to take it and assemble it yourself, attracts. And if it is a Spanish company, with what that entails, success is served on a platter. And not only the success, but the expectation that accompanies it. The furniture, of course, is 100% made in the Basque Country and is only sold online. What happened next? The boom exploded. We all wanted a Lufe furniture.
And we not only wanted them to support the national product. They are made of pine wood and a bed costs 30 euros. Shipping costs, adapted to price ranges. If we buy up to 50 euros, 10 shipping costs. A pine wood bed for 40 euros. A more than attractive price.
His website crashed. They could not cope with orders and delivery dates. Such was the overflow that they had to make an explanatory press release. They hired more staff so as not to delay the delivery excessively. Still, they had to delay some orders. They did not die of success and they knew how to overcome the tremendous amount of orders. As can be seen in the graph, the turning point was precisely March. You just have to see the difference between the production capacity of Muebles Lufe and the volume of orders to the store. Since April, backorders have been reduced, while the company's production capacity has tripled in four months. All thanks, of course, to the media and the occasional interview in national media of great impact.
In the month of July, this difference has been noticeably reduced. Backorders have been reduced to a minimum and everything seems to be back to normal, albeit with delays. We still have to wait a month to receive the furniture we ordered. Ikea Vasco has 'suffered' in its flesh to become a viral phenomenon.
