Comparison Huawei P9 Lite VS Samsung Galaxy J5 2016

Today we are going to confront two of the stars of the mid-range of smartphones that we can find in the current market in our particular WWF of terminals. On the one hand, the recently launched banner of this bias from the Korean firm, the Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 and on the other, also a premiere but this time from the Chinese Huawei, the Huawei P9 in its Lite version . Both phones are endowed with features that make them unique and functional but let's see which of the two wins this fight.

Display and layout

Both terminals have firmly maintained the design line of their predecessors. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 , the design is practically the same as that of the J5 that came out last year, preserving the plastic structure, although they have introduced a metal frame that surrounds it. In addition, a new color is included , pink, and gold and white are maintained. The  Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 measures 145.8 x 72.3 x 8.1 mm and weighs  about 159 grams,  slightly larger than Chinese adversary. The screen as could not be otherwise is a Super AMOLED 5.2 inch diagonal and a distribution of 1,280 x 720 pixels . In the case ofHuawei P9 Lite we would be talking about a phone that has been developed in a unibody structure that allows the removal of the battery, not the Galaxy J5 2016 . This structure and its materials include metal frames on a plastic base. As for the screen, this new terminal midrange Huawei is also committed panel of 5.2 inches  whose resolution Full HD reaches 1,920 x 1,080 pixels but uses a different technology. IPS LCD is the type of panel chosen by the Chinese company for the Huawei P9 Lite. In addition, it scores a bit against its adversary including among its features  a fingerprint reader, which we can find located on the back of the phone. The full dimensions of the  Huawei P9 Lite  reach  146.8 x 72.6 x 7.5 millimeters,  along with a weight of  147 grams  and it is available in three colors:  white, black and gold. 

Photographic equipment

In this section we have almost a technical draw, but only in the main camera. Found in both models one rear camera whose main sensor is 13 megapixels of resolution, we can take pictures in any lighting situation. But if there is a factor that contributes to the results under poor lighting conditions, it is the lens, which on both phones is  f / 1.9 aperture. Both also have the  LED flash and autofocus, but the biggest and substantial difference between the two cameras is that the Huawei P9 Lite camera has an optical image stabilizer (OIS).that helps us to improve the sharpness of the photographs in any circumstance. Both phones record videos in Full HD at 30 frames per second,  incorporate HDR mode  ,  auto focus , face detector and other modes that are usually common on Android devices.

Where there is no tie and a considerable difference is in the front camera. The front camera of the   Samsung Galaxy J5 2016  has 5 - megapixel  and integrates a front LED flash for we can selfies us in any situation. However, the Huawei P9 Lite lens surpasses it in megapixels, specifically it has 8, but it does not incorporate a front flash . Of course, both front cameras have an aperture of  f / 1.9.

Power and memory

In the case of the Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 we come across a Snapdragon 410 chip  , Qualcomm's mid-range made up of  four Cortex A53 cores running at 1.2 GHz clock frequency. This processor is accompanied by an Adreno 306 graphics chip . We are facing a chipset that has 64-bit support and offers quite efficient performance in mid-range phones such as the Galaxy J5. The Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 has  2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage (but the free space is 10.6 GB ). Let's see how the P9 Lite competes with this . A  Kirin 650 octa-core processor manufactured by the company itself with four of the cores operating at a speed of 2 GHz  and the other four cores operating at 1.7 GHz, an ARM Mali-T880MP2 graphics chip  that ensures optimal performance, 2 or 3 GB of RAM and the same internal memory as the Galaxy J5 2016 , only 16 GB although expandable in both cases.

With these data we can conclude that in the power section, except that in internal memory they are tied, the Huawei P9 Lite wins , since Samsung could have opted for a more powerful chip such as the Snapdragon 615 for this terminal.

Operating system

Here the Huawei scores a goal that brings it closer to victory. The Huawei P9 Lite is governed by   Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and as a version of the customization layer,  EMUI 4.1 . By contrast, the  Samsung Galaxy J5 2016  lags behind with  Android 5.1, which means  a disadvantage compared to the competition, since most terminals, including its opponent today, have come out with  Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow .

Autonomy and connectivity

Subtle differences between both terminals in this section. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy J5 2016, the  terminal takes advantage of its size to wear a 3,100 milliamp battery , which allows us up to  370 hours of autonomy (about two weeks) without the need for charging. For its part, the Huawei P9 Lite , incorporates a 3000 milliamp battery , which allows us to use an average of a day-a day and a half  without having to recharge it. It's a subtle difference but one that gives the Galaxy J5 2016 an advantage over its rivals.

In terms of connectivity, the two phones connect to 3G or 4G mobile networks, have a 2.4 GHz WiFi port , GPS antenna with Glonass and Beidou support, Bluetooth 4.1 , NFC chip , ANT +  and allow creating a WiFi zone to share connecting with other devices, such as another smartphone or a computer. The physical connections are what we usually find in the mid-range. A MicroUSB port  for battery charging or data transfer and a minijack to connect headphones or external speaker and   dual SIM card slot.

Verdict

If we have to name a winner , narrowly, that would be the Huawei P9 Lite. Both phones are in the mid-range ratio, and although the Huawei P9 Lite is a bit higher in price, it is also in performance. Perhaps they tie in terms of the photographic equipment chosen, although the front camera of the Huawei P9 Lite is better than that of the Galaxy J5 2016. On the other hand, the Galaxy J5 2016 conquers us with a Super AMOLED panel, but if there is something important in a smartphone It is its interior, since its performance will depend on it, and in that sense the Huawei P9 Lite KOs its competitor with an octacore processor.There are other slight differences such as the 100 mAh battery between the two terminals and also other more obvious ones such as the operating system, the Huawei P9 Lite being again the undisputed winner, since it comes standard with  Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow . In internal memory there is also a tie, since both are quite short with those 16 GB, which we remember, they are always expandable.

In any case, both terminals are good representations that the mid-range is not synonymous with low quality , so whichever you choose, you will be opting for a quality phone.
