The infinity display reaches the mid-range. The great revolution of this year comes to a mobile with a more moderate price (350 euros) . After seeing the 18: 9 frameless screens on the LG G6, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 +, now it's the LG Q6's turn. A team that brings us a 5.5-inch panel in the body of a 5-inch . With a medium technical set and 100 degree wide angle selfie camera. It is not a cucumber, but it is one of the most attractive mobiles in the current mid-range catalog. Its price, as we said, stands at 350 euros, and it arrives in Spain from the first week of August. We have been able to test this device in depth. We tell you our impressions.

When design is (almost) everything
5.5-inch bezel-less display, Full HD + resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels, 18: 9 aspect ratio
The LG Q6 is a mobile that blatantly bets on design. And, of course, the screen. The Q6 inherits the same concept as the LG G6, bringing its screen with hardly any frames to a mid-range device . It seems to us a really attractive bet. That will surely become a trend in the coming years. LG comes first and that can put it in an advantageous position compared to its competitors.
We are talking about an IPS panel called FullVision, with a 5.5-inch format . The screen barely leaves frames neither on the sides nor on the ends. Thanks to this, we can insert a larger panel in the body of a 5 or 5.2 inch mobile. And with a good Full HD + resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels. Without a doubt, more than enough to enjoy games and all kinds of multimedia content. All this with that spectacular touch that these mobiles have when seeing the screen cover almost the entire front (in this case, 78% of the front).

Although we have already seen other ambitious proposals at this point (such as the Xiaomi Mi Mix), the big news is the commitment to the 18: 9 format. In other words, halfway between a wide screen and the format in which cinema films are recorded (21: 9). The great thing about this format is that neither the apps nor the videos and other multimedia contents are designed for 18: 9. So many times we will have to sacrifice black bands at the ends or use a zoom mode that cuts the image slightly.
However, I have no doubt that we will soon see specific content in 18: 9 if this trend becomes a trend.
The design of the LG Q6 is very clean . There are no physical buttons on the front and on the back we only have a small speaker in one corner and the main camera in another. Speaking of the rear, it has slightly curved edges and a shiny look. The sides are metallic. One of the interesting details is the extra protection provided by Gorilla Glass 3 . What is lacking is IP certification to make the Q6 resistant to accidental splashes.
The LG Q6 will be available in four colors: black, silver, white and gold, but it will be necessary to see if it debuts in all of them when it arrives in Spain
Its full measurements stand at 142.5 x 69.3 x 8.1 millimeters, along with a weight of 151 grams . It is not one of the thinnest mobiles on the market but it is very comfortable to handle. The truth is that that feeling of having a large screen in a compact mobile has been around for a long time.
A technical set without great fanfare
Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, 3 GB of RAM, good fluidity in menus and apps, 32 GB internal memory
The LG Q6 bets on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, a 1.4 GHz chip with eight cores. It is not a very powerful processor, but the good optimization work that LG has done should be noted. Menus and most apps work smoothly. We were even pleasantly surprised when we put the model to the test with powerful games like Asphalt 8: Airborne . In addition, it incorporates a 3 GB RAM memory . A remarkable value to run a good number of apps at the same time without downtime. Where we have found the most problems is when using the camera. In this case, we did have to wait a precious time for the app to open. Or, even, it has been left hanging and it has become necessary to re-enter.
When it comes to facing the LG Q6 with the main power tests, its results have not left much doubt . 37317 points in AnTuTu and 1932 points in Geekbench are low results when compared to other devices of a similar price. It is evident that LG's firm commitment has been for the design and its borderless screen, leaving other aspects more neglected.

The internal memory of the LG Q6 stands at 32 GB. Apart from the space for the operating system and pre-installed apps, we have about 22 GB available to store our apps and photos . This space can be expanded through its microSD card slot.
Good camera for wide-angle selfies
13 megapixel main camera, 5 megapixel selfie camera with wide angle lens
We already said that the LG Q6 was a firm bet on the design and the screen. And that is noticeable in fields such as the camera. There is no trace of the dual camera (which was to be expected). Instead, we have a lens with a resolution of 13 megapixels and aperture of f / 2.2 . The results of this camera in optimal conditions are quite good, with colorful and well detailed photos. However, when facing scenes with contrast between light and dark or when night approaches, he suffers much more.
In the camera app we don't find many options to get the most out of the camera. One of the ones we like the most is a quick menu to share the photo that we take directly with one of the most used apps.

Another thing is the camera for selfies. The camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels and it also has some problems when it gets dark, but it packs a really useful feature. The one to take 100 degree wide angle photos. Thanks to this, group selfies, or self-portraits with a building or a landscape in the background, are exponentially improved. Without a doubt, a function that will give us a lot of play on a day-to-day basis.
USB type C connector, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC missing
One of the sections in which LG has lavished the least is in that of connections. Starting with the connector that the LG Q6 uses. Instead of a USB type C port, this model opts for a classic USB 2.0 type B connection. On a practical level we shouldn't notice so much difference (only when transferring files to the PC) but the bet can be missed for the future. And is that most of the mid and high-end models already have this connector, called to be the reference in the coming years in smartphones and laptops.
What can give us a lot of play is the presence of NFC . This technology is used mainly to carry out payments through mobile phones. Within the wireless connections Bluetooth version 4.2 and WiFi are also included. Of course, there is also no AC WiFi, which allows a faster and more stable Internet.
Without fingerprint reader
But of course, if we talk about absences, one of the most striking is that of the fingerprint reader. It is difficult to think of a mid-range or high-end mobile without this function. The alternative offered by the LG Q6 is facial recognition through the front camera, a function present in other models such as the Samsung Galaxy S8.
However, this method has two buts. On the one hand, if we are in the habit of turning the phone on a lot this method will use up a greater amount of battery. But, in addition, it is a less secure method than that of the fingerprint reader or the iris.
The LG Q6 incorporates a 3,000 milliamp battery . It is a medium capacity, which complies with what is expected although without particularly highlighting. In our tests, we have been able to use the mobile for a whole day with regular use (messaging applications, browsing, the occasional video).
Price and reviews
350 euros, screen with hardly any frames and Full HD + resolution, very attractive and minimalist design, camera for selfies with wide angle
The LG Q6 arrives in Spanish stores from the beginning of August. Its price is around 350 euros . In short, we are facing a mobile that bases a large part of its proposal on its screen. A panel with hardly any frames and Full HD + resolution . The first impact of the Q6 is really attractive. It is a mobile that has that immediate "I want it" effect. The screen is bright and with good color management. Of course, many things are sacrificed to achieve this point, perhaps too many. For example, we do not have a fingerprint reader, nor a particularly good camera for 350 euros.
Where if it performs well, at least in a day-to-day use, it is its technical set. And that without being especially powerful. The great value of the LG Q6 is to serve as the forerunner of a new generation of frameless screen phones in the mid-range . It is the first in this section. If you are looking for a more groundbreaking and differential design, this is your team.
Interestingly, one of its main rivals may be precisely the LG G6 . And it is that the flagship terminal of the Korean company has fallen very quickly in price, to the point that they are beginning to find really competitive offers for a price not too far from Q6. In this way, it is very likely that many users bet to pay a little more to get this model.
