In September of last year, and after the disappointment of the LG G5, the Korean company presented a new high-end terminal. A device focused on innovation, thanks to its double screen, its double camera or its 32-bit Quad DAC for HiFi sound. However, the company already has a new rooster in the henhouse. It is called LG G6 and it arrives ready to give a lot of war in the high range. What weapons do you have? A new design with practically no frames, a spectacular screen and a double camera. Does it beat the LG V20 then? We wanted to find out by putting the LG G6 and the LG V20 face to face .
Design
LG is a company that does not like to follow what other manufacturers do. Koreans always try to innovate in their designs. Sometimes they work out better, sometimes worse. The company realized its mistake with the LG G5 and decided to forget about the modules.
The LG G6 is committed to a metallic design in which the narrow frames of the front stand out. This new design allows to offer a 5.7-inch screen in the space that a 5.2-inch device would occupy .
Back cover LG G6
Although, as we said, there is a lot of metal in the terminal, the back has been designed in glass . However, the terminal offers a different touch feeling than other mobiles with this finish. Something similar has happened to us with the Huawei P10 which, curiously, offers a metal back.
The reduction of the front bezels has forced the company to place the fingerprint reader at the rear . Specifically we have it located just below the double lens of the camera.
LG has done its homework and endowed the G6 with IP68 certification . That is, the terminal is resistant to water and dust. The full dimensions of the LG G6 are 148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9 millimeters, with a weight of 163 grams. It is available in three colors: white, black and silver.
The design of the LG V20 can be defined in one word: endurance. Koreans have wanted to experiment with new materials to achieve something that is no longer commonly seen today. The rear of the LG V20 is made of AL6013 aluminum, a super light alloy used to make airplanes and boats . The corners of the terminal are made of silicone polycarbonate (Si-PC), a material used to make helmets.
This combination of materials makes the LG V20 achieve MIL-STD-810 certification. This certification tells us that the mobile is capable of withstanding several falls to a maximum height of 1.2 meters .
Rear LG V20
After this display of resistance, it should be noted that we have a design with the fingerprint reader located on the back . We do not forget the double screen, which we will talk about later.
The dimensions of the LG V20 are 159.51 x 77.98 x 7.62 millimeters, with a weight of 174 grams. The terminal is available in titanium gray and silver.
screen
The screen is another of the great protagonists of both terminals. Although for different reasons. The LG G6 provides a panel of 5.7 inches with a resolution of 2880 x QHD + 1,440 pixels . The company has decided to use an 18: 9 format instead of the usual 16: 9, which makes the screen somewhat longer.
In addition, the LG G6 screen stands out for being compatible with HDR images , both in Dolby Vision format and in HDR10 format. That is, we can enjoy HDR content from the streaming platforms that are compatible.
LG G6 screen
The LG V20 also incorporates a quite striking screen. The first thing that catches your eye is its size. The LG V20 incorporates a 5.7-inch screen , with an IPS-type panel and a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The screen density stays at 513 dots per inch.
On the other hand, the LG V20 inherits the dual screen system of its predecessor , which consists of a division that is made on the main panel to display certain information without affecting what is being done at that time. It also serves to see notifications without having to turn on the whole screen.
Dual screen LG V20
Processor, memory and operating system
Taking into account that LG has not been able to opt for the Snapdragon 835 processor, surely you imagine that both devices offer a very similar technical set. Indeed, both incorporate Qualcomm processors, although with a small difference.

The LG G6 incorporates a Snapdragon 821 chip . It is a processor with four cores, two at 2.4 GHz and another two at 2 GHz, and an Adreno 530 GPU at 650 MHz. Accompanying this processor we have 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. A capacity that we can expand using a microSD card of up to 2 TB.
Its rival in this comparison offers a very similar SoC. The LG V20 incorporates Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chip . This processor is made up of four cores, two running at 2.15 GHz and another two at 1.6 GHz, and an Adreno 530 graphics processor at 626 MHz. Accompanying this set we have 4 GB of RAM memory and a storage capacity that it can be 32 or 64 GB. We can expand this capacity using a microSD card of up to 256 GB.
Android 7.0 on LG V20
Regarding the operating system, both terminals opt for Android 7.0 Nougat . What's more, the LG V20 boasted for some time being the first smartphone to feature Android 7 as standard.
Camera and multimedia
We are facing two high-end terminals, so both a photographic section is expected to match. Both devices incorporate a double camera , although not with the same characteristics.
The LG G6 has two lenses with 13 megapixels of resolution each. One of them is a 125-degree wide-angle and f / 2.4 aperture, while the other offers an f / 1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization.
Dual camera of the LG G6
On the front, the LG G6 incorporates a camera with a 5 megapixel sensor, f / 2.2 aperture and a 100-degree wide angle.
The LG V20 chooses to use the same photographic set that the LG G5 mounts. Ie, we have a dual 16 megapixel sensor with OIS image stabilizer and auto focus laser system. This is accompanied by an 8 megapixel fixed wide-angle secondary focus, for taking 135-degree shots. This camera also offers video stabilization through Qualcomm's EIS technology.
As for the front camera, the LG V20 incorporates a sensor with a resolution of 5 megapixels, f / 1.9 aperture and a wide angle lens of up to 120 degrees.
Dual camera LG V20
We must stop along the way to talk about the sound section of the LG V20. This terminal incorporates a 32-bit Quad DAC manufactured by ESS Technology . A system that generates a sound far superior to that of a traditional DAC.
Furthermore, the LG V20 supports music files without quality loss. It is also capable of recording HD quality audio .
Does this mean that if we are lovers of sound and music we should choose the LG V20? We don't have why, since the LG G6 also incorporates a 32-bit Quad DAC .
Autonomy and connectivity
LG G6 Battery
We cannot deny that the last terminal of the Koreans is a kind of evolution of the LG V20. We see it again in the drums. The LG G6 incorporates a 3,300 milliamp battery . It is a good piece of information, but we must not forget the large size and resolution of the screen. Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.1 fast charging system has also been included.
On the other hand, the LG V20 incorporates a 3,200 milliamp battery and also has a fast charging system. Again, a priori it is a good figure, but we do not forget the large size of the screen. We will have to wait for a thorough test to verify its autonomy in the real world.
LG V20 charging connector
Taking into account that we are comparing two high-end terminals, the connectivity is what is expected of them. Both offer support for 4G LTE networks, WiFi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac, NFC and Bluetooth. Both even incorporate the latest and most modern charging connector, USB Type-C .
Conclusions and price
LG is a daring company. Although some 'experiments' have not been successful, the company continues to offer something different from the others. The two terminals that we are comparing are a good proof of this, to a greater or lesser extent. The LG G6 offers an innovative design, with very narrow front bezels. It also offers a large screen in a smaller body and compatibility with HDR images.
With the LG V20 the company also offers some rare novelties. Its double screen system is quite striking and allows you to have some functions always at hand. It is also one of the most resistant terminals on the market .
LG G6
For the rest, we are talking about two very similar terminals. Both offer a premium design and a virtually identical technical package . The processor difference is not noticeable in the daily use of the terminal.
Yes we will observe differences in the photographic section, the LG G6 being one step ahead . Which is not to say that we are disappointed if we opted for the LG V20.
LG V20
Even when we talk about battery we have a very similar data. We have not had the opportunity to test the terminals in depth, so we do not know how they will behave in real life. However, both should offer similar autonomy .
And we finish this comparison talking about the price. The LG G6 is expected to go on sale with a price of around 750 euros . We can find the LG V20 with a price of around 500 euros . However, if we search the network well, we could get it for something less. Is it worth the difference? We leave it to the choice of each user.
