The Bose SoundLink Color II is the youngest of the SoundLink family . Its design has nothing to do with that of the Bose SoundLink Revolve, although both speakers share some characteristics.

This speaker is designed to always be carried in your backpack. It has a very compact size in the shape of a flask. Its enveloping silicone casing gives it enough resistance to withstand shocks when thrown into a bag or carried in a backpack.

The Bose SoundLink Color included some plastic parts. The Bose SoundLink Color II, however, features a soft-touch silicone surface all over the body . This makes it more comfortable to carry in your hand.

Plus, the Bose SoundLink Color II is IPX4 certified waterproof . The IPX4 certification classifies the degrees of protection against the intrusion of solid objects such as dust, accidental contact and water in an electrical system. In the case of the SoundLink Color II speaker, the company ensures that it is capable of withstanding splashes of water from the pool or bathroom. Even from a light rain. Of course, the speaker will not hold if we submerge it.

Thanks to this silicone coating, the speaker is able to withstand light shocks . The full dimensions of the Bose SoundLink Color II are 13.3 x 12.7 x 5.7 centimeters, with a weight of 540 grams. That is, we can take it anywhere without much problem.

In terms of connectivity, as we said, the Bose SoundLink Color II is a Bluetooth speaker. It offers a wireless range of about 9 meters and pairing it with our mobile or tablet is really simple.

For this we will only have to follow the voice commands that will guide us during the pairing. Also, the speaker remembers the last eight devices used . This will allow us to use it quickly without having to be pairing the mobiles that normally use it.

We must bear in mind that the Bose SoundLink Color II is not a WiFi speaker . For this function the company has the SoundTouch series. That is, this speaker is designed to connect to a mobile, tablet or computer only via Bluetooth.

It does include the NFC system for a faster connection. And we can even connect a device through the 3.5 mm stereo audio input.

We must also bear in mind that the Bose SoundLink Color II does not offer the stereo pairing function that we do see in other speakers of the brand. However, the company has commented that it is working to include it in a future software update.

Yes we have in this new version with a microphone. This will allow us to receive calls . When a call comes in, the music pauses and the call plays through the speaker. To answer the call you can press the multifunction button and speak directly into the loudspeaker to answer the call. In other words, it will not be necessary to have a mobile phone nearby to be able to answer calls. After the call ends, music playback will resume.

The incorporation of a microphone will also allow us to use Siri or Google Now . Holding down the multifunction button we will activate the voice control of the mobile. So we can use voice dialing or give instructions to the personal assistant we have. Pressing the multi-function button again will exit voice control mode.

Autonomy and application

If we want to take the speaker anywhere we will need a more than acceptable autonomy. The Bose SoundLink Color II has a battery capable of providing a range of about 8 hours . Just reading the data we may not be too surprised, but considering its size it is not bad at all.

To charge it we will have to use the microUSB cable that is included. Unlike the previous model, in this one the connector is located on one side. If we are not playing music, most of the SoundLink Color II battery's charge can be recovered in about 3 hours if we charge it from a power adapter. Charging from alternative USB power sources or while playing music may take longer.

To control and configure the speaker we will have the Bose Connect application available . It is available for both Android and iOS. With it we can quickly access the main functions of the Bose SoundLink Color II, such as the automatic shutdown timer, the volume control and the query of the battery status.

From the application we can also manage the connections to the speaker or switch between devices if we have more than one . In addition, we can go from a call on the smartphone to the music on the tablet or laptop with just a swipe of the finger.
