Philips LED 7303, 43-, 50-, 55-, and 65-inch 4K TVs

Your Expert RecommendedUnderneath its great OLEDs, Philips has a full range of large LCD or LED televisions. In addition to renewing the basic ones of the 6503 series, and the top of the 8303 series, this is the new intermediate series: the 7303. They mount 4K Ultra HD LED panels, without the NanoLED technology of the 8303 but with the powerful P5 processor and the system Android TV . They arrived like the rest of the range during the first quarter of the year, and prices are starting at around 500 euros.

Android TV

The Philips 7303 series carry the Android TV operating system and that is a factor to consider. In today's televisions, the content that is accessed via the Internet matters a lot. Apart from the usual broadcasts (by land or satellite). This allows easy and agile access to different applications, and Android is one of the best systems. It allows you to go beyond traditional television programming and expand the possibilities using the Google Play Store and the Philips application gallery. We can enjoy movies, television, music, applications and online games.

This Philips series uses a Quad Core processor to move Android TV . Thanks to that you can move games quickly, and also browse or run applications. It has 16 GB of internal memory so as not to run out of space by installing whatever we want. Access to the Google Play Store and dedicated Philips applications open up a world of multimedia possibilities. The remote control has two faces. One common to facilitate frequent commands, the other with a QWERTY keyboard and touch panel to enhance the experience like on a computer. It also supports voice commands.

With the multimedia applications originally offered by Philips, we can play virtually any video format. In USB sticks or network shared files, we can see AVI, MKV, MPEG (1 to 4 and AVC), WMV9, VP9 and also HEVC (H.265). And also any type of subtitles: SRT, SUB, TXT or SMI. As a Smart TV, the Philips 7303 have a multi-room server and client. With a USB, we can record programs or freeze the broadcast if we have to be absent or are called by phone.

HDR Plus and Micro Dimming

In addition to having 4K Ultra HD panels, four times the resolution of Full HD, the Philips 7303 are compatible with HDR Plus. The high dynamic range for images allows the screen to reach peak brightness levels and also maintain good contrast and color correction. This HDR Plus is not the advanced HDR10 + system (which rivals Dolby Vision) but it does allow you to enjoy many benefits of HDR with content that has been produced in this way.

Philips 7303

All Philips 7303 also use the Micro Dimming Pro. It is a system that some Philips televisions incorporate, which measures ambient light . Based on that (if it is day or night for example) a dedicated software analyzes 6,400 areas of the image and adjusts brightness and contrast. Thus the image is presented optimally at any time of the day or night, depending on the room.

Despite being an accessible range, the latest and most powerful graphics processor from Philips equips these televisions. It is the P5 Perfect Picture Engine , in charge of optimally presenting images on the 4K screen whose origin may not be anywhere near as good. Optimize resolution, sharpness, color, contrast, and movement. This image processing engine, the Philips P5, delivers a brilliant image. Details gain in depth visibly. Colors are more vivid and skin tones more natural. The contrast is so sharp that it comes close to the upper ranges with OLED. With extremely smooth movements, which for example allow you to follow the movements of a ball or the tennis ball.

Elegant design and Ambilight

The Philips 7303 are large screen televisions but very slim and slim design. The display has a metal frame and a matte finish two-piece metal base. The rear incorporates the popular Philips lighting system, Ambilight. It has three sides of colored LED lights, which expand the light of the images on the screen. They increase the visual spectacle and help to relax the view avoiding sudden cuts. They achieve an enveloping effect similar to that of sound systems ... but for the eyes. The Ambilight system makes movies and games more immersive. Music is a light show. And the screen seems bigger thanks to that, of course. Smart LEDs around the edges of the TV project screen colors onto the walls and into the room, in real time, if we prefer. We will enjoy perfectly adapted ambient lighting.

Sound

In terms of sound, it offers up to 20 W of power and decodes DTS-HD internally. They are two speakers of 10 W each. It also takes advantage of this format to improve the clarity and impact of the sound. It does so with DTS TruSurround sound processing, which uses the two channels available in its speakers to project sound with more apparent dimensions.

The internal media player of the operating system recognizes sound files of all kinds: AAC, MP3, WAV and WMA. We only miss the FLAC playback, which can be done with another application (Android advantages). Or surely with some system update.
