Brushing your teeth is something we all do (or should do) on a daily basis. But being a daily activity that we have very internalized, it is normal that it costs us to take the step to a more advanced brushing system. And realize the great difference between a manual and an electric toothbrush. And even more so if we face the Oral-B Genius 8000N series, one of the most powerful and complete brushes on the market.

This brush has five different cleaning modes and several smart features to improve brushing, such as a sensor that alerts you if you are brushing your teeth too hard or a built-in timer that alerts you when it is time to change areas of your mouth.

But that is not all. Oral-B Genius 8000N toothbrushes are compatible with a mobile app that is synchronized through the toothbrush via Bluetooth. Thanks to a base included in the pack that sticks to the mirror, we can let our mobile guide us through the cleaning process. Oral-B Genius 8000 toothbrushes can be found in stores for a price that varies by configuration. For example, we have a standard version for around 95 euros or a special version of Star Wars Oral-B Genius 8300 for 120 euros. We tell you our impressions after brushing our teeth with this brush for a few weeks.

Oral-B Genius 8000N, Electric Toothbrush Test

Adapted and powerful cleaning

I have been a user of electric toothbrushes for some time, but until now I had not made the leap to a high-end model. And the difference is, frankly, abysmal. It is not only the step from a manual to an electric toothbrush, the change is also noticeable between buying a cheap electric toothbrush and a first-rate one.

The change between a cheap electric toothbrush and a high-end one is noticeable and a lot

Starting with power. The Oral-B Genius 8000N surprises with the power of brushing . The first time (and in the default mode) it generates the same impression as when you do a mouth cleaning. In fact, for some it can be too strong. The good news is that it has up to 5 different cleaning modes.

  1. The default mode . It is intended for daily cleaning.
  2. The so called Oral Pro Clea n. In this case, the maximum speed of the head is sought for a more complete cleaning. Lights up with a gingiva icon with a +
  3. The Sensitive mode . For those who have sensitive gums. It is also a mode that can be a good idea if you start with this brush and want to get used to this experience little by little. It has a smoother speed and is marked by a blade, so it is not difficult to identify.
  4. The 3D White mode . It is the most curious way of the brush. It is intended for teeth whitening, and the key is that it alternately shifts gears. Of course, without reaching the power of the Oral Pro Clean mode at any time. You can identify it by its diamond-shaped icon.
  5. The Tongue mode . The last of the Oral-B Genius 8000N modes is the one that focuses on cleaning the tongue. A cleaning that many of us overlook although it is as important as that of the teeth. As you might expect, this is pretty smooth.

The smart brush

Beyond the modes of use, this electric toothbrush incorporates a good number of intelligent functions. For example, it has a timer when brushing . Every 30 seconds, the brush lights up and vibrates to indicate that we can change the area of the mouth (in theory it is 30 seconds of cleaning per quadrant, 2 minutes in total). The truth is that it is a simple but very effective way for us to get used to cleaning our teeth for a longer time.

The Oral-B Genius 8000 toothbrush has a pressure detector that vibrates and illuminates the LED of the toothbrush in case we press too hard on the gums

We also really like the pressure gauge. This function is activated when we press the brush too hard on the gums. When this happens, the brush glows red in the so-called Smart Ring, vibrates and automatically reduces the rotation speed. Thanks to this we avoid damaging the teeth. In addition, the vibration is very practical since the first instinct is to push the brush away.

A sober and elegant design

The Oral-B Genius 8000N has a rather sober design but with an elegant touch in white. The part that is in contact with the palm of the hand has a pleasant rubber touch, designed so that the grip is comfortable and the brush does not slip . This part has a differential touch with small perforations. The rest of the handle is covered with glass and is where we find the different LED icons and the two physical buttons that the brush has.

These buttons are the on and off buttons and the arrow button that works to switch between modes or to activate Bluetooth and make it easier for the Genius to connect with the mobile. We have already talked about the different modes that have their own icon marked with a white light when they are active. In addition, we also have an icon that symbolizes the Bluetooth connection and another to indicate the status of the battery. In this case, with three bars depending on the state of charge.

Speaking of charging, in our tests the average time the brush lasted with a full charge was around ten days, at the rate of two brushings a day (complying with the recommended two minutes and sometimes a little longer).

Another key to electric brushes is the possibility of using different heads. In the Genius 8000 box we have three different heads, each with a different objective. The best thing to do is to try them out to find out which one best suits our teeth and the main objective. Some favor teeth whitening more, others a deeper cleaning ...

One of the keys to Oral-B electric toothbrushes is the option to buy different heads to better suit our brushing needs.

By the way, just below the head we have the area called Smart Ring, which is nothing more than an LED circle that can be illuminated with different colors.

One app to control everything

In a new concept of brushing, the use of one of the most important tools in our daily lives could not be lacking. The mobile becomes an extension of the Oral-B electric toothbrush. Or, at least, you want to. Once connected to Bluetooth, the Oral-B Genius 8000N transfers the stored brushing data to the app. And what can be done from the mobile?

First, we have the option to configure the brush to our liking. Starting with the Smart Ring. When matching the brush we can choose between twelve different colors so that it looks with the tone that best represents us. Another option that we find very interesting is to mark the brushing time. If two minutes seems like a lot (or a little), you can always change the timer time to suit your day to day.

From the app we can change the color of the Smart Ring or the brushing time

It also includes the option to choose the order in which the different modes will be activated when we click on the arrow button. The truth is that this function does not seem decisive, but it is one more addition.

Regardless of the brush settings, the Oral-B app seeks to make your mobile part of the brushing experience. For this, a base that sticks to the bathroom mirror is included. In this base you place the mobile to use its camera and help you in the process. The main problem with this point of the app is that the Bluetooth connection can cause problems(In my case it has been complex, with occasions in which it has worked without problems and others in which I have ended up brushing my teeth without looking at the app). In fact, if you are not disciplined, it is very likely that you will end up ignoring the mobile camera for day-to-day brushing. However, it is a very interesting option for users who want to go one step further when brushing their teeth, as it guides us through the process and shows us the correct angle when brushing their teeth.

By the way, the app also wants to connect with younger users (and not so much), through the so-called Fun Zone . This complement places us different masks in the style of Instagram or Facebook to make the experience more fun.

Price and reviews

The Genius 8000N Oral-B series is one of the most advanced of the company and is priced accordingly. You can find different proposals such as the Genius 8300 itself with a nod to Star Wars or a more standard version of the Genius 8200 . Personally, if you live as a couple or as a family, a more than interesting option is the Oral-B Genius 8900 that includes two handles for less than 150 euros .

Is an electric toothbrush in this price range worth it? The truth is that I was the first to have my doubts, but I admit that after the Oral-B test I would not go back. Beyond the extra additions like the app, the quality of the brushing is undeniable. And it is something that accompanies us in the day to day of our life, as important as showering or washing hands. I think it is worth investing more in a brush that will give us a better performance. The difference with manual brushing is huge , and I have also noticed a lot compared to a cheap electric toothbrush.
