OLED technology continues to advance and LG bets, one more year, on OLED panels in its high-end televisions for 2018. The Korean company has presented its new portfolio for this year, with very interesting models. The 2018 OLED range will consist of the W8, G8, E8, C8 and B8 TVs . In addition to a renewed design, the 2018 OLED range arrives with the new Alpha 9 processor as a great novelty. In addition, artificial intelligence is also very present in the new models.
LG continues to improve its OLED TVs this year. Keeping the OLED panels that have given so much joy in 2017, the new models arrive with a new more powerful image processor. In addition, following this year's trend, a new artificial intelligence system is incorporated. We are going to review the news of LG's OLED range for 2018, and then see the characteristics of each model .
Image Processor Alpha 9
The Alpha 9 is the most powerful image processor LG has ever developed . If we compare it with the model that the 2017 televisions equipped, we have 35% more power in the CPU, 35% more power in the GPU and 50% more power in the DDR.
The Alpha 9 is a 14-bit chip, capable of handling 5 HDR formats and with Pixel Dimming technology . In addition, it is capable of executing up to four steps for noise reduction (banding) .
On the other hand, the Alpha 9 performs an analysis by objects and frame , identifying the main object from the background and increasing the contrast ratio between the object and the background to obtain greater depth.
The OLED 2018 LG TVs use a color chart seven times more accurate than previous models . This allows an even more realistic color representation.
Lastly, the Alpha 9 is designed to support a higher frame rate (HFR) , which produces sharper images at 120fps.
Smarter TVs with ThinQ
Another of the great novelties of the LD OLED televisions of 2018 is the ThinQ system . It is an Artificial Intelligence system that will allow us to talk to the television in a natural way .
For example, we can say to the television “See Stranger Things”, “turn off the television when the program ends” or “what channel is the Real Madrid game on today? Along with this AI system comes webOS 4.0, a more optimized and secure version of LG's operating system .
And if we have several LG devices at home with ThinQ, the TV can act as a control center for all of them . From washing machines to thermostats to smart bulbs. Everything can be controlled from one place.
Now that we know the two most important novelties of this year, let's do a brief review of LG's 2018 OLED TV range .
LG OLED W8
The top of the range this year is once again the spectacular LG OLED W8 Signature . Like its predecessor, the LG OLED W7, it has been conceived to be hung on the wall. It is less than 3 millimeters thick and is completely "glued" to the wall, almost literally.
Of course, the LG OLED W8 has the new Alpha 9 processor, the ThinQ system and is compatible with 5 different HDR formats. In addition, it includes a Dolby Atmos soundbar with 4.2 channels and 60W of power .

LG OLED G8
Also included in the Signature series, LG's luxury range, we find the LG OLED G8 . We could say that the G8 is the ideal model for those who are looking for the best but do not want to hang the TV on the wall.
Its spectacular design brings us a panel just as thin as the top model, with the electronic connections also located on a sound bar . However, this time we have it located right under the TV, doing the support functions.
In terms of features they are the same, namely, Alpha 9 image processor, five HDR systems, ThinQ and Dolby Atmos sound in the bar . A bar that also has 4.2 channels and 60W of power.

LG OLED E8
The Signature range aside, the top model in the range is the LG OLED E8 . This comes with a very different design than we could see in the LG OLED E7.
A very thin panel is maintained, but at the bottom we have a thicker area that houses the connections. On the front we have a glass part that joins the panel and the base .
On a technical level, the LG OLED E8 equips the new Alpha 9 processor, the ThinQ system and the possibility of playing up to 5 different HDR systems .
Even the 4.2 channel sound system and 60W of power is maintained, with Dolby Atmos technology .

LG OLED C8
One of LG's best-selling TVs last year was the LG OLED C7. A television that offers the great image quality of OLED panels at a more competitive price . This year his successor could follow in his footsteps.
The LG OLED C8 arrives with a new design , sporting a larger base but with the minimum thickness of the panel on the top. In addition, it is the cheapest of those equipped with the Alpha 9 processor , a complete guarantee of sales.
We also have the 5 HDR systems and LG's ThinQ technology . Dolby Atmos sound technology is not lacking either , although with a simpler sound system than that of the higher models.

LG OLED B8
The entry model to LG's 2018 OLED TV range is the LG OLED B8 . It is the model that has changed the least at the design level compared to the OLED televisions of 2017.
But the big difference of the B8 with the rest of its brothers is the image processor. It includes the Alpha 7 , a "trimmed" version of the Alpha 9. It is a 12-bit processor, with Local Dimming, image analysis by areas instead of by objects, noise elimination in two steps and HFR 120 fps .
Otherwise, we have the same characteristics. The ThinQ system, all five HDR systems and Dolby Atmos sound are included .
