Nikon has expanded its catalog of more advanced compact cameras with two exciting new models: the C oolpix P340 and Coolpix S9700 . Both models come to succeed two other already existing in their offer, but improving key points such as the lens. Both are compact, pocket-sized, but offer a technical height profile, as well as manual functions for users looking for something beyond the typical 'point and shoot'. They both have a serious straight line design, especially the P340. In the case of the Nikon Coolpix S9700 its strong point is the super zoom lensthat allows to enlarge the image up to 30 times, something unusual in a camera of this type. We see the most important details of these two compacts below.
We start with the Nikon Coolpix P340, which as we said is the one with a straighter cut design. This model comes as a successor to the P330 that was presented last year although, as pointed out in Engadget, they are quite similar. The Nikon Coolpix P340 has a CMOS sensor with BSI technology , which is responsible for taking advantage of the maximum amount of light so that the photos turn out well even if the lighting is not good. It has 16 megapixel resolution and its total area is 1 / 1.7 inch. The lens is one of its strengths, with a variable aperture of f / 1.8-5.6 depending on the focal length we use, which ranges from 24 to 120 millimetersand is equivalent to a fivex zoom. Of course it allows enlargement with digital zoom, but this type of system causes severe quality losses so it is better to work only with optical zoom. It also allows the recording of FullHD videos at 30 or 60 frames per second, in addition its stabilizer will help prevent violent shaking in the image. On the back it has a 3-inch LCD panel with VGA resolution , manual controls, an integrated flash and can be connected via WiFi to transfer files.
On the other hand, the Nikon Coolpix S9700 has a lens that offers a much wider zoom, up to 30 increases, which is said soon. The lens covers a focal length of 25 to 750 millimeters, but is nevertheless quite compact and easy to carry in a pocket. The lens has a brightness ranging from f / 3.7 to f / 6.4, it is not as bright as its presentation companion, but it is the usual in wider zooms. It can also record FullHD 1080p videos (30 or 60 fps) and has a VR stabilizer that reduces vibrations. The screen in this case is OLED type , although it repeats the 3-inch size and resolutionVGA . The Nikon Coolpix S9700 will go on sale at the end of the month for $ 350 (258 euros) and the Nikon Coolpix P340 will arrive in March for $ 380 (280 euros).
