The Alcatel company continues to expand the family of Pixi devices . A range that seeks to offer current connectivity adjusted to the budgets of each user, providing several options in terms of screen size. Something that only included smartphones, but has now moved to the tablet market. In this way, it already has three large Alcatel Onetouch Pixi 3 devices : 7, 8 and 10 inches . The latest being the most recent terminal and with more updated components such as its version of the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system , its 5 megapixel camera and its 4,060 mAh battery. We look at all of these tablets together below.
Display and layout
Of course, the screen is a key component in these new members of the Pixi family , being able to find different panels according to the user's tastes.
On one side is the tablet Alcatel Onetouch Pixi 3 (7) 7 inch size on a panel TFT that is capable of displaying images at a maximum resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels . Which means not reaching the HD standard . In addition, its density is 170 pixels per inch , which does not offer a quality viewing.
On the other hand there is Alcatel Onetouch Pixi 3 (8) with 8 inches diagonal. This screen is also TFT but reaching a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels , slightly surpassing quality HD (WXGA) and providing a density of 189 pixels per inch .
The most recent, the Alcatel Onetouch Pixi 3 (10), however, bets on the size of 10.1 inches diagonally on an IPS screen , which allows a better viewing angle. Resolution remains at 1280 x 800 pixels , or WXGA .
In terms of design, the three Alcatel Onetouch Pixi 3 models have very similar lines, betting on simplicity. Thus, in its polycarbonate body it is possible to see straight lines that are rounded at the corners and at the edges of its back shell, offering a comfortable grip. All this without lines that mark elements on any of its faces, beyond the volume and power buttons on the upper right side, and alternating the opening of the speaker on the back cover between the upper and lower areas in the different models. It should be noted that, in the Alcatel Onetouch Pixi 3 (7), the user has the possibility of alternating the back cover for colors such as pink , blueor red , beyond the default white. All this taking into account that there are two general colors for each model: black and white .
In terms of size and weight, the Pixi 3 (7) has a body of 191 x 109 x 9.2 mm and 260 grams of weight . For its part, the 8-inch version measures 209 x 124 x 9.2 mm and weighs 335 grams . Finally, the Pixi 3 (10), has dimensions of 255.5 x 155 x 9.5 mm .
Cameras and multimedia
Alcatel has not opted for a strong multimedia component in these Pixi tablets , perhaps cutting the cost to meet the basic needs of any user. For this reason we find different cameras in the 7, 8 and 10.1 inch models .
In the case of the Pixi 3 (7) and Pixi 3 (8), both tablets have a main lens of only 2 megapixels, achieving captures that exceed the HD standard, although without visual displays. In addition, its camera for selfies has VGA resolution .
For its part, the Pixi 3 (10) is somewhat better Having a sensor of 5MP , getting screenshots of 2592 Ñ ... 1944 pixels resolution . While the front camera is 2 megapixels .
The sound section does not stand out in any of these three tablets, offering the qualities that every smart device should have, being able to reproduce a wide collection of audio formats, in addition to having a speaker and 3.5 mm jack audio output .
Power and memory
There are a few differences under the hood of these three tablets as well. These devices range input , so play effectively without a great power. All this with the understanding that there are variations in the case of processors depending on the connectivity version chosen .
In the Pixi 3 (7), we find a MediaTek MT8127 or Snapdragon 210 processor (4G version), which works with four cores capable of running at 1.3 Ghz speed. In addition, in its case it is accompanied by 512 MB 1GB (4G) of RAM to offer smooth operation.
For its part, the Pixi 3 (8) opts for a MediaTek MT8312 processor with only two cores running at 1.3 Ghz . Unlike the smaller version, it has 1 GB of RAM .
Finally, the Pixi 3 (10) contains the MediaTek MT8311 processor , which also has two cores running at 1.3 Ghz speed. Similarly, only 1GB of RAM accompanies the brain in this device.
Regarding storage capacity, the smaller screen versions, 7 and 8 inches, only offer 4 GB of memory to store all kinds of content. On the 10.1-inch Pixi 3 tablet this space is expanded to 8 GB . Of course, all of them have a MicroSD card slot with which to expand their storage with up to 32 GB more in the case of the Pixi 3 (7) and (8) tablets , and up to 64 GB in the case of the Pixi 3 (10).
Operating system and applications
In the case of the operating system, Alcatel bets on Android, owned by the Google company . Of course, it does so in different versions depending on the tablet model. In this way, the 7-inch Pixi 3 and the 10.1-inch Pixi 3 have Android 5.0 Lollipop in their 4G versions , thus offering the latest functionalities such as personalized notifications or even the possibility of enjoying several user accounts in the same device. However, the eight-inch Pixi 3 remains on Android 4.4 , which offers good efficiency in its operation, but leaving aside other issues such as those discussed.
Regarding the applications, it is possible to find the entire usual collection of Google tools pre-installed in the three versions of Alcatel tablets . YouTube videos , Hangouts and their messages and video calls, Google Maps maps and a good variety more. Not forgetting the Google Play Store to download applications, games, books, music or movies.
It should be noted that the versions with data connectivity to the Internet also have a telephone . In other words, the possibility of receiving calls and speaking through these devices, despite their size.
Connectivity and autonomy
Regarding connectivity, we must talk about different versions of these devices. And it is that Alcatel wants to make accessible the possibility of connecting to different networks, although it does so in different models. Thus, it is possible to find models with mobile connectivity or only WiFi of its three tablets. In addition, regarding mobile connectivity there are versions with support for 3G networks and others for 4G or LTE high-speed Internet. All this bearing in mind that GPS is always present in the versions with a data connection.
Other issues such as the Bluetooth connection are not missing , although finding that in the 7 and 8-inch tablets without a data connection it is 4.0 , while in the rest it has version 4.1 . They also have microUSB 2.0 ports , MicroSD card slot , WiFi antenna, and the usual sensors.
In the autonomy section it is also possible to find certain differences, something logical when taking advantage of different screen sizes. On the one hand, the 7-inch Pixi 3 tablets have a 2,820 mAh battery . The medium ones, with 8 inches , opt for a slightly larger battery of 3,240 mAh capacity. Lastly, the 10.1-inch Pixi 3 features a 4,060 mAh battery .
Availability and opinions
At the moment Alcatel has already put the smaller tablets on sale. Thus, it is possible to find the Pixi 3 (7) for 69 euros (WiFi only), 89 euros (3G) or 129 euros (4G). The Pixi 3 (8) is also priced at 129 euros . For its part, the Alcatel Onetouch Pixi 3 (10) has only been announced, having to wait yet to know its price and cost of sale.
Ultimately, it comes to tablets input range for users who want a large device and different connectivity options , being able to save on your purchase. A well-varied family that does not offer the same power as high-end tablets, but that cover the basic needs of leisure and work without spending more than 200 euros.
