The architectural answer to the problem of overcrowding in cities appears to be to build taller buildings with greater capacity . We saw it with the Eco Tower in London and we meet again with something similar with Ultima Tower, an impressive project that includes a tower 3 ”™ 2 kilometers high. To get an idea of the scale of this work, here is a fact: the elevator would take 9 minutes and 40 seconds to go from the ground floor to the upper floor . And that the expected upload speed is 21 kilometers per hour .
At the moment, this project does not have a fixed location for its construction, and it can be carried out in any city with a large number of inhabitants and a high population density . If it were ever built it would become the tallest building in the world, above Burj Dubai (currently under construction). It would almost approach Mulhacen , which at 3,500 meters is the highest mountain in the Iberian Peninsula .
With shapes inspired by a termite mound , this building presents mammoth figures in absolutely all its measurements. Up to 1 million people could live inside it, taking advantage of the 1,500 square kilometers of total area it has . The base measures approximately 1 ”™ 8 kilometers in diameter and narrows as one ascends , the space through which the homes are distributed. The multiple gardens provide the natural touch in contrast to the architectural elements. Each unit has excellent panoramic views and fresh air . Although living at 3,000 meters above sea level it is not advisable to try to enjoy that air if the wind blows.
The Ultima Tower concept has been developed by Eugene Tsui , whose aim is to solve two serious problems in large cities in one go. On the one hand, its intention is to reduce the environmental impact of buildings on the planet , since if this continues the surface of the Earth will end up being completely covered with buildings. On the other hand, it also aims to offer a space more suited to the needs of an increasingly numerous population .
We assume that the security measures will be up to par (pun intended). In an emergency, evacuations could spell chaos. Nor do we want to imagine the anger of the residents of the upper floors if an elevator breaks down . In those cases, raising the shopping bag can become a multi-day adventure.
