Samsung JS8500, 4K TVs with curved screen

Arrives  Samsung JS8500 Series , a new family of TVs with curved screen. They offer an immersive experience of Ultra High Definition (4K) images for the living room. They can display content in both two and three dimensions (3D). There are three sizes to choose from (48, 55 and 65 inches) to fit any space. The degree of curvature is calculated considering the average viewing distance in each case.

These smart connected TVs can access videos and movies from the Internet and serve multimedia content from computers and other devices within the home network. Some of its functions can be controlled by voice and are accompanied by a metallic remote control, also slightly curved in design.

Design

The Series JS8500 of Samsung is available in three sizes; with diagonals of 65, 55 and 48 inches , for a wide aspect ratio. It is an Ultra Slim design that finishes off the screen with a thin black frame. The screen is slightly curved; the degree of curvature is calculated taking into account the average viewing distance. In this way, viewers enjoy a greater sense of immersion when viewing.

Even when it comes to curved screens, they are quite stylized, since they measure 10.6 centimeters deep. Turning on these televisions is quite fast; right away they're ready to start enjoying images from the multiple sources they support, whether it's TV shows, videos from the Internet, or movies stored on any device within your home network.

Each device is equipped with two remote controls. One is a metal remote with a high-end finish that features a curved shape and a design that matches the TV stand. The user can also activate an on-screen remote control by pressing the MENU / 123 button on the Samsung Smart Control. From there, you can, for example, display the electronic program guide, change the picture mode, select sources, access subtitles, or consult the manual with the TV functions.

Image and sound

These Samsung televisions incorporate new LCD panels with LED backlighting that the manufacturer calls SUHD, which offer a 4K resolution of 3,840 by 2,160 pixels (four times that of Full HD). They can rescale lower quality video sources up to 4K. The screen curvature is 4,200 R. That means, so that the users of the larger model will be surrounded by images with a diagonal of 65 inches, which translates into 163 centimeters. On the other hand, they can display three-dimensional stereoscopic images, with the 3D system active, and convert 2D content to 3D.

The South Korean manufacturer has applied its latest advances to these devices. Such as 10-bit panels and Nano Crystal Color technology, which improve the color rendering of images. Other enhancements enhance the intensity of blacks and the illumination of whites. Another technology takes care of enhancing the depth of images and the UHD Dimming function optimizes contrast and brightness.

They incorporate a double television tuner, which can receive DTT HD broadcasts, cable television and satellite television. It's even compatible with HbbTV hybrid television. As for the audio, 2.2 channels, it is based on two speakers plus a double woofer that shoot the sound from the front. The audio output power (RMS) is 40 watts in total, distributed in 10 W for the right channel, another 10 W for the left, and 2 by 10 W for the double woofer. Besides, they are prepared to recognize faces and to control them by gestures and movements, but for both cases a webcam would have to be installed. They are also prepared to make videoconferences through Skype, adding the corresponding webcam.

Other benefits

The connectivity is very complete. They have four HDMI inputs (one with an audio return channel), a component video input combined with a composite video input, an optical digital audio output, and a headphone output. It also includes three USB ports and is compatible with MHL (Mobile High-definition Link), which allows you to connect mobile devices to see what appears on the screen of a smartphone or tablet on the TV. To this must be added a common interface slot (CI + 1.3) for pay television and antenna inputs for DTT, cable television (one commonly used for terrestrial) and satellite television (two).

USB external hard drives can be connected to the TV, although the manufacturer advises using a model with its own power adapter. USB devices that require a high-power input must use the 5V 1A USB port. Anyway, the USB drive must be formatted in FAT, exFAT or NTFS file system.
