Yamaha YAS-201, sound bar with wireless subwoofer

yamaha yas-201

Yamaha YAS-201 is a sound bar (or sound projector ) that is accompanied by an active and wireless subwoofer . This set is a good solution to provide surround sound to any room in a very easy way. It also significantly improves the home theater experience, especially with respect to the speakers built into today's flat-screen televisions. It supports various multichannel audio formats, such as Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS . It supplies a total power output of 160 watts , of which 100 watts correspond to the subwoofer.

Inside the slim bar are two full-range loudspeakers with two 5.5-centimeter cones serving as the front-end; each of them is placed in one of the corners of the enclosure . This location is not accidental, because the engineers try to maximize the volume of the enclosure with a box that is only 8 centimeters high (without the feet). In this way, the bar can be placed in front of the television, without interrupting the view. It also supports wall mounting. The subwoofer , meanwhile, has a 16-centimeter cone and a bass port located on the side. This active subwoofer is capable of reproducing deep bass, so there is no lack of emotion in movie soundtracks.

The subwoofer communicates wirelessly with the bar. This, apart from being more comfortable, also gives more freedom when installing the subwoofer inside the living room. Of course, the subwoofer, as it is active, must be close to a socket. Thanks to Air Surround Xtreme technology, the Yamaha YAS-201 can deliver 7.1 channel surround sound with just a bar and a subwoofer. In addition, it has another technology (Clear Voice) that ensures that the dialogues of the films and the narrations of the games and television programs are always clear and understandable.

Another interesting feature is the UniVolumen , which always maintains the same volume level, regardless of the channel, program or source. So even if the advertisements come in, you won't notice the difference. Either way, this feature can be turned on or off. Regarding connectivity, it has two optical digital audio inputs. With the optional wireless adapter YIT-W12 it is possible to play music wirelessly from an iPod, a Pad, an iPhone, a Mac or a PC.

The supplied remote control is quite simple and small, almost credit card type. Allows you to adjust the volume of both the bar and the subwoofer. It also makes it easy to select the sound mode: stereo (suitable for listening to music) or surround (suitable for movies). The bar weighs 3.1 kilos and its dimensions are 886 by 98 and by 121 millimeters. As for the subwoofer, it weighs 8.3 kilos and measures 290 by 282 and by 316 millimeters. The Yamaha YAS-201 system is available at a retail price of 450 euros.
