Nokia 5030 XpressRadio - Thoroughly

Nokia 5030-1

A mobile phone, period . Well, and also an FM radio tuner . That is what the Nokia 5030 XpressRadio consists of , an extremely simple terminal that Nokia has presented today in Finland, and which is practically the antithesis of the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic that the firm announced at the same event. No camera or music player or 3G or many other common functions, but it has a great autonomy and integrated radio antenna .

Nokia 5030-2

In fact, it is the first Nokia phone to carry this type of antenna, the main advantage of which is that it is not necessary to plug in headphones or speakers for the connector to act as an antenna (of course, the phone will come with headphones compatible with a special port for this purpose ). Measuring 108 x 45 x 15 mm and weighing 82 grams , the Nokia 5030 features a bare 1.8-inch color screen (128 x 160 pixels) and a slightly rounded profile .

In the line of other terminals that we have seen such as the Vodafone 235 , the vocation of this small phone is quite clear: to be a suitable solution both for emerging markets (since it has a provisional price of only 40 euros ) and for developed countries , where I would present it as one of those easy-to-use mobile only for calls and messages , the kind that operators give away for making a prepaid card.

As its name suggests, the only notable non-telephone function of this Nokia 5030 XpressRadio is the FM radio tuner , which is controlled through three pushbuttons located on one side : the central button directly starts the tuner , while the upper buttons and lower are used to switch from one station to another . Its other great prop is the 1020 mAh battery .

Nokia 5030-3

It is a capability on par with advanced phones with Wi-Fi, HSDPA, Bluetooth, and other features. But the Nokia 5030 XpressRadio has a much more limited equipment, hence we are talking about marks of 10 hours of talk, almost 22 days on standby and a whole day listening to the radio . For this last function, by the way, the terminal has a loudspeaker built into its back, in the style of an old transistor .

It will hit the market during the second quarter of the year , with two different finishes in red and gray . Despite its limitations, it is certain that this Nokia 5030 XpressRadio will have a group of users that is rarely talked about, but that is not a minority for that reason: those who pass the latest innovations and only want to talk on the phone without using the charger each two times three .
