Samsung Corby - Thoroughly

Samsung has just launched a new terminal for the younger audience . It is the Samsung Corby , a phone with a touch screen , brightly colored covers and a philosophy very focused on social networks . Suddenly, Samsung has decided not to provide the Corby with 3G connectivity , leaving it with a simple EDGE link .

Equipped with a simple camera and basic features , the Samsung Corby will hit stores this September at a price , yes, very cheap: 160 euros in its free version .

Interchangeable housings

Samsung claims to have designed the Corby with an audience between 18 and 25 years old in mind . In fact, the terminal recovers long-forgotten concepts such as interchangeable covers . Each terminal comes with a normal back cover and another decorated with circular motifs. The phone will go on sale in various colors with names as cheery as ”˜rose cupid” ™, ”˜orange festival” ™ or ”˜jamaican yellow” ™. In addition, Samsung has announced that it will soon launch covers with additional designs .

Aesthetically, the truth is that the Samsung Corby is a beautiful mobile , divided by a diagonal of two colors and with a rounded shape and pleasant to hold . The mobile measures 103 x 56.5 x 120mm and weighs only 93 grams .

Screen and image

The terminal integrates a 2.8-inch QVGA (240 × 320) touch screen with 265,000 colors and accelerometer-guided . It also has zoom that can be activated with a single finger and a smart lock method called Smart Unlock, which allows you to unlock the screen by drawing a letter with your finger. The terminal has the Touchwiz graphical interface installed , common in the company.

As for the camera , it is a discrete 2 megapixel CMOS (1600 × 1200) without flash although with the ability to record video in QVGA resolution . The terminal has 50MB of internal memory expandable up to 8GB via microSD cards .

In terms of compatibility, the Corby is capable of playing audio in MP3, AAC, AAC + and WMA , and video in MP4, WMV, H-263 and H-264 . It also has an FM radio tuner with RDS.

Connections and batteries

The connections section is the least understood about the phone. Samsung has wanted to attract the young public with a phone very oriented to social networks. The Corby has a new application called Pop-up SNS that centralizes messages and notifications from the main social networks and also allows access to images and multimedia content from pages such as Picasa, FlickR or YouTube .

The problem is that Corby is not a 3G terminal , its GSM connectivity only reaches EDGE , so it cannot qualify for a data rate . It also does n't have Wi-Fi connectivity to lean on and it only has Bluetooth 2.0 and USB.

The batteries , are about to finish is TANDAR of 960 milliamperes . Samsung does not offer data on its autonomy although, given the lack of 3G connectivity, it will be normal in today's mobile phones.
