Another novelty presented at this year's Nokia World is the reduced version of the Nokia N97 , officially known as the Nokia N97 Mini . The truth is that there are not many differences between one and the other mobile . The Nokia N97 Mini lowers the size factor a bit at the cost of eliminating the directional pad that accompanied the keyboard and reducing the screen a bit .
Moreover, the terminal retains much of its features , such as 3G or 5 megapixel camera . Other specs, like memory , drop a bit to accommodate the new size . Here is a complete review of this new pygmy version of Nokia's flagship terminal .
Exteriors
The original N97 measured 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9mm and weighed 150 grams . The mini version measures 113 x 52.5 x 14.2 (plus two millimeters in the area of the camera, which protrudes a bit) and reduces the weight to 138 grams . It is not an excessive reduction, but it shows in the pocket. The terminal still maintains the sliding keyboard that tilts when unfolded.
What has been eliminated from the equation is the directional pad that was to the left of the keyboard, something that is not much missed because the screen is still tactile . The configuration of the rest of the buttons remains the same.
Screen and camera
The screen on the N97 Mini has been reduced from 3.5 to 3.2 inches . However, it still maintains the 640 × 360 resolution , so it is even sharper than the original. The aspect ratio is a cinematic 16: 9 with 16 million colors .
The camera of the Nokia N97 Mini is maintained at about effective 5 - megapixel (2584 × 1938) with Karl Zeiss optics, autofocus and dual LED flash . The lens aperture is f2.8 and the focal length is 5.4mm . It also records video in MPG-4 format at VGA resolution and 30 frames per second. These features are the same as the standard N97 .
Power and Connections
The power and storage section has diminished a bit. Of the 32 GB of internal memory of the N97 we go here to only 8GB . The figure, however, is still well above average and can be expanded by another 16 GB thanks to the proverbial port for SD memory cards .
The connections remain unchanged compared to the N97 original and include HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP . The physical connections remain MicroUSB for charging and data and a standard 3.5mm audio jack for music . The N97 Mini also integrates A-GPS with digital compass and supported by OVI Maps software with navigation , both for car and pedestrian.
Multimedia
Like its big brother, the Nokia N97 Mini is compatible with a wide range of audio formats including MP3, AAC, AAC + and eAAC + . As for video , the N97 Mini plays MPEG-4, WMV9, RealVideo, H-263, H-264, and Flash Lite .
The Nokia N97 Mini is also the company's first terminal to have Nokia Lifecasting pre-installed . This small Widget , developed in collaboration with Facebook , will allow phone users to share their location (managed thanks to GPS) on the social network and update their status or enter comments in a much faster and more intuitive way .
Batteries and availability
The Nokia N97 Mini has a 1,200 milliamp battery that provides a range of 430 minutes of conversation (240 if it is on 3G networks) and 320 hours (which drops to 310 on 3G networks) . The autonomy in music playback is 28 hours and 210 minutes in video playback . These last figures are affected downwards by the connection, be it 3G or not and are somewhat lower than those of the original N97, whose battery is 1,500 milliamps.
E l official price of the N97 Mini will be 450 euros (before taxes and subsidies), and will be released before the end of this year .
The best
Despite the reduction in size and statistics, the N97 Mini is an excellent phone and its revised size makes it very interesting for all those who complained about the size of the original model .
It can improve
The processor in the N97 Mini has not been changed and was already a weak point in the standard model. In certain operations it was somewhat slow and the same will happen to this review.
