Samsung is strong in the market for offers to create your own music on demand. The company has already marketed several wireless speakers designed to transmit sound in all directions that are controlled directly through the Samsung Multiroom app .
Specifically, we have had the opportunity to test this music system with the Samsung R7 and Samsung R6 Portable models . The first of them with a higher power and audio quality, while the second is capable of working far from a socket through its built-in battery and has a more compact and wearable format. We tell you our impressions about Samsung Multiroom and the Samsung R7 and Samsung R6 Portable speakers , available on the market for 400 euros and 350 euros respectively. Everything is managed from the free application that is available for all mobile operating systems.
Revolutionary design and quality audio
Without a doubt, the Samsung R6 Portable and Samsung R7 speakers are devices that will not go unnoticed anywhere. Samsung has deployed a very attractive egg-shaped design that also has a very specific function. Facilitate the transmission of audio in all directions thanks to its internal audio system. In addition, the fact that they combine an attractive appearance with a very compact format will allow us to place them without problems in any corner of the living room or a room at home. These devices are available in two different configurations, one in black and one in white. In both cases, metallic elements are inserted in the upper and lower zone. To function, these devices includefour touch buttons on its surface next to a small metal strip where the physical buttons are housed to lower and raise the volume. In addition, the Samsung R6 Portable incorporates a button to turn the equipment on and off on the back. This second button to completely turn off the equipment is due to the fact that the R6 Portable is capable of operating without the need to be connected to the network. In our tests, this device endured around 5 and a half hours of continuous music playback.
Regarding the audio quality itself, it must be recognized that there is a very notable difference between the Samsung R7 and the Samsung R6 Portable . Both for power and for the acoustic experience itself, if you are not going to use the speaker very often on getaways or in places where you do not have a plug handy, I would highly recommend the Samsung R7 option . And it is that this speaker enters another level in quality and audio power , creating a much richer experience. If you look at its internal architecture, both teams feature a tweeter 25 mm and 125 mm woofer to handle the media and bass. Of course, in both cases you can notice the lack of a subwooferfor richer bass. The Korean company plans to launch an additional subwoofer in the coming months to complete this audio experience.
Start up
The start-up of these devices is quite simple if we want to create a musical thread on demand. Once we have connected them to the network, we have to download the compatible app for smartphone and tablet that is available for both the Android and iOS platforms . Once we download it, we open the app and start adding our speakers. By the way, sometimes we had some other problem getting the speakers to be detected but generally if we press the two touch buttons on the right of the volume bar for five seconds, the synchronization is done in a few seconds.Every time one of the speakers is added, you have to write the password of our WiFi network so that they become part of it. In this way, we can now send the music from our mobile device to the speaker as long as it is within the same network. Another of the features that these speakers bring us is to work together with a smart TV through its Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity . Without a doubt, it is a very interesting extra for users who want to combine the on-demand music system with a home cinema for our movies and series.
Samsung Multiroom
And this is where this proposal gains real strength. The Samsung Multiroom 2.0 app is used to configure these speakers and to assemble our own music on demand in a few steps . By operating through the home WiFi network , we can distribute the speakers around the home without being so concerned about the physical limits imposed by Bluetooth (10 meters from the source). Once they have synced, we have several options to squeeze all the juice out of this thread. On the one hand, there is the option of grouping the speakersso that the same music sounds in every corner of the house. Despite this grouping, the Samsung app allows you to configure the volume of each speaker separately. Another option that we find very interesting is to generate a surround system to enjoy a richer experience when being in the same room. Individually, we can play with the equalizer of each device or set alarms. Finally, with the timer option you can listen to the music for a certain time and then the speaker will turn off.
When it comes to listening to music, we have been very pleasantly surprised by the number of sources from which we can play our favorite songs. Thus, in addition to the songs that we have stored on the mobile device, we can transmit the audio from various sources such as Spotify, Deezer, TuneIn or Napster , in addition to a long etcetera. In fact, we can work with any device that includes the DLNA function to transmit files through the WiFi network. The operation with different sources is intuitive and we can see the cover of the song directly in the Samsung app, as well as an icon to identify the service at the top and a volume bar. The only problem we've come across is thatOccasionally playback stops for no apparent reason (rarely happens), but this could be due to some interference from the WiFi network itself. For the songs on our own mobile, we have the option of creating playlists or choosing our favorite songs.
Price and reviews
The Samsung R7 speaker is priced at 400 euros, while the Samsung R6 Portable model drops to 350 euros. The dedicated Samsung Multiroom App 2.0 application is available for free for Android and iOS . In short, a system to create a la carte music at home that seems very complete and easy to use, at the level of other powerful proposals on the scene such as Sonos . In addition, the audio quality that is achieved with its speakers is quite good, especially in the R7 model. The only thing missing to complete this proposal is a subwooferto enjoy some really powerful bass, although Samsung has planned this launch in the coming months.
