La familia del sistema EOS R de Canon vuelve a crecer. Tras el lanzamiento de la Canon EOS R y la EOS RP, llega la Canon EOS Ra, la primera cámara full frame de Canon centrada en la fotografía astronómica. Este nuevo modelo comparte la mayoría de características con la EOS R, presentada en septiembre de 2018. Cuenta con el mismo sistema de enfoque automático, capacidad para enfocar en condiciones de luz muy bajas, un sensor CMOS Full Frame de 35 mm con 30.3 megapíxeles y procesador DIGIC 8.
Sin embargo, la nueva Canon EOS Ra ha sido modificada pensando en las necesidades específicas de los astrofotógrafos. Incluye un nuevo filtro de bloqueo de infrarrojos (filtro IR), que permite que una aún mayor cantidad de luz de hidrógeno alfa (Hα) llegue al sensor de imagen. Esto se traduce es que es capaz de transmitir hasta cuatro veces más de esta luz de hidrógeno alfa, en comparación con la EOS R. Los fotógrafos podrán así captar el distintivo color rojo de las nebulosas, imposible de captar con una cámara tradicional.

Astronomical photography is not easy. Having to shoot without light the photographer needs some help from his camera. The Canon EOS Ra has a compact and lightweight design, and can be easily attached to a telescope .
It is also equipped with a vari-angle touch screen that makes the camera comfortable to shoot from any position. In addition, it has focus peaking and a magnification up to 30x (three times more than with the EOS R) to check the focus. On the other hand, the EOS Ra's electronic viewfinder enables the photographer to clearly view subjects or objects in the dark.
The Canon EOS Ra has a Full Frame sensor capable of using all of the 30.3 million pixels of the camera, which means that it is capable of capturing all areas of the image with the best quality. However, if we connect a telescope eyepiece that does not cover the full image area of the sensor, the EOS Ra also allows to crop the image area to the size of the APS-C format, approximately 11.6 megapixels (4,176 x 2,784). as well as other trim sizes.
Like its sisters in the range, the EOS Ra is equipped with Dual Pixel CMOS AF . It offers a wide range of autofocus (AF) and manual focus (MF) functions, keeping AF down to -6 EV. In addition, it has the capacity to record 4K videos and 4K time-lapse .
The Canon EOS Ra, which shares a mount with the EOS R, has been designed to maximize the possibilities of lens design. The RF mount allows for a radically new design, with a frame-to-focal plane distance of just 20mm, as well as the wide 54mm diameter of the mount. The camera is compatible with three lens mount adapters , thus allowing us to use our collection of Canon lenses.
