This is the new version of the Huawei MateBook 14 of 2020

Huawei Matebook 14 2020

Hand in hand with the Huawei MateBook X, the Chinese brand has also presented the MateBook 14 at its HDC developer event. A compact 14-inch notebook or laptop with many possibilities. Although it is surprising, above all, to carry an AMD Ryzen processor instead of Intel . A strong bet on power with some changes on the outside and inside of this laptop. This is Huawei's 2020 MateBook 14 for the new course.

Huawei's new laptop is smaller than an A4 folio

Cooler and compact design

In this computer we will not find the latest advances in the highest range of Huawei laptops, but there are some changes compared to last year's edition. Thus, the MateBook 14 now has a thickness of 15.9 millimeters and a weight of only 1.49 kg . Kilo and a half that may be due to the fact that its chassis is made of aluminum. All this with a Space Gray finish or the already usual silver gray that Apple established with its MacBook Air.

But the most promising changes in this edition are within. Huawei has redesigned the motherboard of this laptop to take up less space inside the chassis. It is not wasted space since they have taken advantage of it to include heat dispersion modules. In addition, it now has two thinner fans with more blades that ensure greater air flow (39% more) so that the heat of the components is not a problem.

AMD power

Inside this MateBook 14 come other interesting changes this 2020 in terms of hardware. Huawei has decided not to include Intel Core processors, but AMD Ryzen this time. An interesting and powerful bet, since they have shown that the 4000 H series have served the cause of gaming laptops and other equipment with solvency. In the case of this notebook we see models with up to AMD Ryzen 7 4800 H . A processor built in 7nm with 8 cores and the possibility of maintaining a 40W working mode. Wow, that is efficient and powerful. Although we will have to test it in detail in an analysis to comment on our impressions.

It is accompanied by up to 16GB of DDR4-type RAM . No surprises but with solvency. Enough to transport a 1GB file in just 2.5 seconds. Huawei claims that this laptop is fast, and the figures seem to confirm this.

Screen and sound for work and leisure

Huawei wants this MateBook 14 to not only be an office or class computer. Or at least it seems that its screen and sound (in addition to its aforementioned power) can be used far beyond text programs, tables, slides or surfing the Internet. The screen panel is tactile and has reduced its frames to achieve a 90% ratio between body and screen. Its resolution is 2,160 x 1,440 pixels in a 3: 2 format that claims to take advantage of a larger space to have more content on the screen. All this with a 100% color spectrum in the SRGB scheme.

Stereo sound completes the audiovisual experience , which also ensures to offer an immersive experience thanks to its technology.

Sufficient battery and versatile connectivity

Huawei claims that this MateBook 14 withstands use of up to 10 hours uninterrupted playing video in FullHD quality . Or up to 8.5 hours browsing the web. We do not have the data of the real battery, but it seems that with an office use the autonomy will serve for the whole day.

As for the ports, Huawei ensures that the connectivity is versatile. There are two USB 3.2 ports, a USB Type-C, a 3.5mm mini jack, and an HDMI port. More than enough for regular laptop use. It is accompanied by the fingerprint reader on the power button .
