Samsung has expanded its mid-range lineup with a new model, which adds directly to the Galaxy Core range . As its name suggests, the Samsung Galaxy Core 4G has the particularity of being prepared to connect to fourth-generation mobile networks through the LTE standard , with which the browsing speed is much faster. This system has already been implemented in our country and can be enjoyed in the most important urban centers, although greater coverage is expected soon.
The Samsung Galaxy Core 4G is a proposal that has the necessary systems to satisfy the needs of the average user. It has a fairly large touch panel , dual-core processor and comes standard with Android . After the jump we see all its technical specifications in detail.
Display and layout
The Samsung Galaxy Core 4G has a TFT screen with a diagonal of 4.5 inches, an adequate size that combines the good of a wide panel with the advantages of a more manageable device. The resolution is QHD , corresponding to a distribution of 540 x 960 pixels , so the density remains at 245 ppi, which is not bad.
Samsung has respected the design that we already saw in the other models of the Core range, which is also in keeping with the visual language of the entire Galaxy range. The terminal has a line pattern rounded so that it better fits the hand and has dimensions of 132.9 x 66.3 x 9.8 mm . It also has the classic home button on the front and the silver frame that surrounds the entire device. Samsung has announced that it will go on sale in black and white .
Camera and multimedia
The Samsung Galaxy Core 4G has a simple rear camera, but it will allow the registration of quality images, in addition to carrying several very interesting functions. The main sensor has a 5 megapixel resolution, so the photos will have an intermediate size, enough to see on a large screen and also to print in a not very large format. Next to the sensor there is an LED flash that will come in handy if we want to take a photo in a place with little light or at night. It also has automatic focus, geo-tagging and face detector , but the most interesting functions are provided by Samsung (Sound & SHot, Best Photo, continuous shooting…) One of its strong points is undoubtedly the possibility of recording videos in FullHD 1080p quality at 30 frames per second, so that in addition to having good quality, the videos will reproduce natural movements without jumps. In the front it has another camera for video calls, although in this case of very low quality ( VGA or 0.3 megapixels).
The multimedia profile is on the same level as any average Android smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy Core 4G plays a good variety of audio, video and image formats, among which we find MP3, AAC, WMA, FLAC, MPEG4, H.263 and H.264. It also allows you to save voice notes , has a dictation system and an FM radio tuner .
Power and memory
Samsung has equipped the new Samsung Galaxy Core 4G with a dual-core processor that runs at 1.2 Ghz clock frequency. As support it has 1 Gb of RAM memory that is responsible for ensuring a fast execution. It is not the most advanced configuration that we can find, but it is a smartphone with rather modest components that do not require many resources.
We go to memory, but in this case internal memory. The Samsung Galaxy Core 4G offers a total background of 8 Gb to store files. It is a relatively large capacity compared to other devices of the same level, but it is still easy to end up filling all the space. In that case it will be necessary to use a MicroSD card (supports up to 64 Gb extra).
Operating system and applications
The Samsung Galaxy Core 4G will leave the factory with Android 4.4.2 Jelly Bean , a version that was launched a while ago, although it has quite a few current functions, especially those that Samsung exclusively includes. Users will be able to enjoy the package of Google services that are pre-installed as standard, but more applications can also be downloaded from the two integrated stores: Google Play and Samsung Apps.
The company introduces some applications like Samsung ChatON and help functions like Easy Text and Easy Mode . But there is not everything, the Samsung Galaxy Core 4G is equipped with the Motion UI interface that allows actions to be carried out through movements, such as silencing a call by placing the terminal face down on a flat surface. The company also introduces the S Voice voice assistant , the S Translator smart translator or the S Travel service for travel enthusiasts.
As we have already said at the beginning, the LTE or 4G connection is the main claim of this new Galaxy Core model. Users can connect to the Internet from anywhere and enjoy very fast browsing, although if coverage does not allow it, the network can always be accessed from the HSPA or 3G standard , although it must be borne in mind that the speed will be lower . It could not miss the WiFi port , which will replace the two previous connections when we are at home or work, thus we save mobile data and we can also have a faster speed. The Samsung Galaxy Core 4G also has WiFi Direct to transfer files without using cables, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS antenna. Samsung adds an NFC chip and the DLNA standard to the equation, the first to be able to make payments with the phone and the second to mirror the screen on a monitor or television. Of course it has a microUSB 2.0 port and an audio minijack plug to connect headphones or speakers.
Autonomy and availability
The Samsung Galaxy Core 4G has a 2,100 milliamp battery , for which the autonomy time is unknown at the moment. However, looking at the components of the terminal, it is to be expected that it will support at least a couple of days if it is given moderate use. On the other hand, if we give it a more intensive use, we could see ourselves going back to the plug on the same day.
Samsung has mentioned that the Samsung Galaxy Core 4G will be available in Europe soon , but they have not given a specific date.
Samsung adds one more proposal in its already extensive mid-range, although in this case it is clearly oriented towards 4G networks. Many of the devices with this function are high-end, so their prices are also high, in this sense the Samsung Galaxy Core 4G offers an intermediate solution. The terminal does not have a too advanced technical profile, rather it remains at a discreet level , but it does not have any notable deficiencies, in case it can be blamed for the presence of a slightly outdated version of Android. The company covers this lack with the incorporation of a package of its own functions such as s Voice, S Translator or exclusive features for the camera. In general it is a devicebalanced that stands out in the connections section.
