Nokia presented new models of smartphones at the last edition of the Mobile World Congress, the appointment chosen by the main manufacturers to present their latest news. The Espoo-based company expanded its line of Lumia terminals, the most advanced in its catalog, but did not neglect other more basic segments that are always present in its catalog. The Nokia 301 was one of the protagonists of the Nokia presentation , a mobile like the old ones , with an alphanumeric keyboard design and a basic technical profile. However, this model has smartphone claims, mainly becauseallows us to access the Internet through 3G mobile networks. We have tested the Nokia 301 and these are our impressions.
As we said, the Nokia 301 has a classic alphanumeric keyboard design that is also light and very compact . The control of the terminal is carried out with the Nokia Navy key (the classic crosshead) that allows us to move up, down, to the right or to the left through the different menus; in the center it has the OK or accept button, with it we will enter the different sections. On the sides of this key there are two other buttons whose function changes depending on where we are, for example they can be used to go back in the menus or open the drop-down options. The screen has a diagonal of 2.4 inchesand the size allows you to see the content clearly enough. We emphasize that the screen is not tactile and all the operation is done with the buttons, Nokia has maintained the same formula as always and the operation is quite fluid , and the keyboard is comfortable.
The platform of this model is the popular Series 40 that Nokia includes in its most basic terminals. The home screen that shows us information such as the time, date, calendar events and shortcuts to the most used functions (we can customize which applications will be accessible from the main screen). In the menu we find all the functions of the phone organized in a grid of icons (agenda, contacts, music, camera, messages, photos ...).
The camera has a fairly modest 3.2 megapixel sensor, however we have been surprised that it manages to capture images with a more than acceptable sharpness and size. The Nokia 301 can also serve as a pocket music player and it is also very easy to insert music because it has a MicroUSB port , just connect it to the computer and transfer the songs we want, it is also very practical to transfer the photos we have taken to the computer . Another interesting detail is that it has a MicroSD card slot , so we can expand the memory and carry more files.
Undoubtedly one of the advantages of this terminal is that it allows access to the Internet through the 3G mobile network at a speed of 7.2 Mbps, more than enough to visit web pages, check e-mail or download applications. The most social users are in luck because the device comes standard with several pre-installed chat services, including the popular WhatsApp service . Finally, we want to highlight that the Nokia 301 offers a very long autonomy, especially when idle it can be on for several days without losing hardly any charge (remember that the maximum autonomy when idle is close to 40 days).
The Nokia 301 is a mobile designed for users who prefer a compact, inexpensive terminal (worth 90 euros in free format) and very easy to handle, but at the same time they do not want to give up more current functions such as being able to chat on WhatsApp to be able to be in contact with friends and family. In short, a mobile of the past improved to meet current needs.
