Twitch has always wanted to be more than just a video game streaming platform. And to achieve this, it has launched a new function called “Watch Parties”, with which we can organize a joint viewing of Amazon Prime Video series and movies . This new feature has been in closed beta for a few months and only in the United States, but is now available to all creators and viewers of the platform.
If you are a regular user of Twitch, it is very likely that you already know how to use this new function. But if you've never used the Amazon platform and want to sign up now to be able to watch the Prime Video series with your friends, this little tutorial on how to share a streaming of an Amazon Prime series or movie on Twitch will do you good .
How to organize a Watch Party on Twitch
Assuming you've already signed up for Twitch and have an account, the first thing you should do is add the quick action "Group Video" to your "Stream Manager" . How do we do it? Relax, it is not complicated at all.
Once inside Twitch, we have to click on the icon of our user, located in the upper right, and enter the option "Creator Control Panel" . In this new screen we must select the option "Transmission manager" in the menu on the left side of the screen.
Inside the transmission manager screen we will see a menu, on the left, that says Shortcuts . Here we will click on the + button and add the option "Start Group Video" (we will surely find it the first one, since it is in Featured). When doing so, a new button will appear in Shortcuts called “Start Group Video”.
To stream on Twitch we need streaming software. There are several available, but we have tried the one they recommend from the service, Twitch Studio . So we will have to download the application and install it on our computer. Once installed we will execute it, since it is from here that the transmission is controlled.
If we click on "Start Group Video" and we do not have the transmission tool installed, I have started the transmission, a warning will appear that we cannot transmit. So we must go to the Twitch Studio application, click on "Start transmission" and then click on "Start direct" .
Now that we have started the transmission, we can return to our "Transmission Manager" and click again on "Start Group Video" . Now yes, a list will appear with the content that Amazon Prime Video offers, being able to search what we want to share using the search engine at the top.
Once selected, the content will begin to play. From this moment we can go to the transmission screen and see the content through at the same time we can chat with our viewers. When we are done, we will return to the Twitch Studio application and click on “End transmission” .
To take advantage of this function we must meet some requirements. Both the transmitter and the different viewers must be subscribed to Amazon Prime Video . Obviously, the platform cannot allow a user to subscribe and transmit the content for free to other users.
On the other hand, the Prime Video catalog is not the same in all regions of the world . For example, they probably have content in the United States that is not available in Spain. So if the content that the streamer is playing is not available in our country, we will not be able to see it.
Lastly, the Watch Parties feature is not yet available on mobile devices . Amazon has promised that it will be available in the coming months, but we don't know when exactly it will arrive.
