A new member of the Navigator family could not be missing in the phones presented by Nokia at the Mobile World Congress 2009 . And what does this Nokia 6710 Navigator have that the Nokia 6720 Classic also presented in Barcelona does not have? Well for starters, a screen slightly larger ( 2.6 inches and 240 x 320 pixels ) for better viewing of maps its integrated GPS navigator (AGPS) , along with some features such as free Wi-Fi .
On the other hand, the Nokia 6710 Navigator is sliding format , with dimensions of 104.8 x 50.1 x 14.9 mm and 117 grams of weight. In addition, a key is added to the central wheel and to the keys for managing calls and menus, the mission of which is to directly start the GPS navigator . For the rest, now we are basically at the same phone that said 6720 Classic , with which you bind elements such as five megapixel camera .
The camera of the Nokia 6710 Navigator comes of course with a certified lens by Carl Zeiss , plus a dual LED flash , autofocus and video recording at 30 frames per second and 640 x 480 pixels (the front camera for video calls remains in 15 images per second and 176 x 144 pixels ). The GPS , for its part, also makes use of the Nokia Maps 3.0 application , which allows it to function as the classic car navigator and as a compass to guide us on our walks .
In the multimedia part, we also find a 3.5 mm minijack output , to which we can connect any pair of standard headphones or a special cable to play the content of this Nokia 6710 Navigator on the TV . Its internal flash memory is only 50MB , so the phone relies on its microSD memory card reader . Precisely there we find another difference with the Classic presented in Barcelona: the slot accepts models with double the capacity ( 16 GB ) and the phone will carry a 2 GB card as standard, just double what the Nokia 6720 will include .
In addition to Wi-Fi, the Nokia 6710 Navigator can also connect to the Internet via HSDPA . The terminal has access to Ovi , is compatible with the N-gage video game platform and has a Bluetooth connection with an A2DP profile and an FM radio tuner . As we can see in the images, the lower part of the keyboard and the panel of keys below the screen are slightly inclined forward , in order that we can hold it in the hand more comfortably. Its controls are completed with the camera's shutter button and theSide keys to control phone volume or zoom gradation on camera and maps .
The operating system of the Nokia 6710 Navigator , how could it be otherwise, is a Symbian with an S60 interface . Also in this case, Nokia claims that the terminal has a fairly high autonomy. Especially when using GPS , where we would have about 6.5 hours in car mode and 12.5 in pedestrian mode thanks to its 950 mAh battery . But if we add to it the use we make of the rest of its functions, the real duration goes down. Especially in comparison with the same Nokia 6720 , which has a battery with slightly more capacity and a screen that requires less consumption (due to its smaller size).
As for the finishes, for now Nokia has shown it in chestnut brown and titanium gray . Its provisional price is 300 euros , which will undoubtedly go up to approach or exceed 400 euros once all taxes are added. We'll see when this Nokia 6710 Navigator hits stores in the third quarter of 2009 .
