The desktop version of WhatsApp allows us to perform some interesting actions that you may not know about. Whether we use the Web version or directly download the Windows or Mac version, we will be able to carry out these actions. These are options that help us better organize our chats and be more comfortable when we type from the keyboard.
Pin chats
This is one of the functions most demanded by users since WhatsApp's main competitor, Telegram, included it in its service. Now, in the latest WhatsApp update, this option has reached both the app version and the WhatsApp web.
How do we fix chats at the top and have them always available? We have to move the cursor over the conversation that we want to highlight, and soon a small downward arrow will appear . By clicking on it, a series of options will appear. One of them is Fix Chat.
By checking the option, the chat will go to the top of the conversation history , and will stay there even if we receive new messages in other chats. The way to know which messages are pinned is because you will see a small icon of a pin on the side of the conversation.
If we want to unpin the conversation, we just have to click on the tab again, and this time check Unpin Chat . When you do this, the conversation will return to the same position in chronological order.
Highlight messages
Another way to organize our conversations is by highlighting messages. Thus, if we want to remember certain links that are sent to us, an address or a telephone number, we can do it easily . The way to do it is to go to the exact message that we want to save, and place the cursor arrow on it. When doing so, a tab will appear that will open a menu of options. Among those options is Star messages.
When we mark a message, a small star will appear on the side , to differentiate it from the rest. Later, we can see this message, along with other highlights, in the Featured section. Where do we find that menu? We have to go to the Settings button, above the conversation history, and next to the "+" symbol. By marking it, we will open the menu where we can choose Featured.
In the Featured messages menu, we can also go directly to the conversations to which those messages belong . This aspect is useful if we want to remove the star from the message. To do this, we just have to click on the message tab again, and this time select Remove the highlight of the message.
Search for emojis
One of the peculiarities of the web version of WhatsApp is that we can take advantage of our keyboard to facilitate the use of emojis . Using the command ":", followed by the word in English, we can access almost all moods without having to use the mouse. For example, if we write ": happy" in the chat, we will see a selection of all the emoticons that show happy emotions. Then, with the keyboard arrows we can choose which one we prefer, and by pressing Enter, it will be selected. Here you can see it graphically:
Mark as unread
A new and recent function that reminds us very much of those of email managers is to mark as unread. This function has also reached WhatsApp Web and allows us to mark conversations to highlight them from others in the history itself.
The way to do this is to go to the tab of each conversation, as we have already done to set conversations. This time, however, choose the option Mark as unread . As you do so, a large green dot will appear above the conversation in the history.
One detail: marking the last conversation we have with a specific person as unread does not mean that the other person stops seeing the blue tick . The other person will know that the message is read from when we read it for the first time.
Change wallpaper
WhatsApp Web offers us an option to change the wallpaper of our chats . Unlike the mobile version, it only offers us a selection of spot colors to choose from, and the one we choose will be used for all conversations.
The way to do this is to go to the three-dot button, right next to the big "+" symbol above the conversation history. When you mark it, a new menu will appear, where we have to mark Settings, and then, Wallpaper. Another note: all the changes we make to the WhatsApp Web wallpaper will not be exported to the mobile version .
