The HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 is HP's new business ink printer . A team very oriented towards SMEs that seek versatility when printing, since it works with both A4 and A3 documents . Of course, without neglecting the other functions. The Pro 7720 adds copy, scan and fax to become an all-rounder accessory . All this with speeds of up to 22 prints per minute in black and white and up to 18 ipm in color. And with duplex or double-sided mode to save on paper costs.
But the biggest attraction of the new batch of the OfficeJet Pro 7000 range is combining all these features at a price of just 200 euros . You can buy the OfficeJet Pro 7720 from mid-August in Spain, but we have already had the opportunity to test it in depth. These are our impressions after having messed with the team.

Versatility above all
The HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 is, above all, the perfect printer for SMBs . And we say perfect because it strictly complies with the idea of versatility, so necessary in the field of small companies or self-employed businesses. This equipment offers us an economical alternative to print in A3 size, although it does not seem designed for regular A3 printing. All in all, one of its big surprises is that its input tray lengthens to load A3 paper. It should be remembered that other proposals opt for a printing slot on the margin of the tray, a less comfortable solution.
The HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 paper tray lengthens for convenient loading of A3 paper
Of course, it must be said that in our tests it has sometimes been difficult for the printer to “take” the paper in A3 format (in this case the solution is to drag it slightly manually). A problem that we have not experienced in regular A4 printing. When it comes to A3 printing, the time required for a full A3 page is around 2.5 minutes at the highest quality . In the case of less demanding printing, the time has been around one minute and ten seconds.
Apart from printing in A3, we have double-sided printing in A4, copy, scan or fax function. In addition to mobile printing and WiFi or Ethernet connections. And all with the addition of a small touch screen to control the functions, or its automatic document feeder. Many options for a 200 euro team, which can save you from more of a "brown" in the office.
Good speed for the office, professional finish
It is true that this computer is very far from the OfficeJet Pro X in terms of printing speed. But it achieves remarkable performance on a day-to-day basis. Above all, if we do not use the duplex function . In this case, the print speed drops to around 10 pages per minute (based on our tests with color documents and mixed text with graphics).
According to data from HP, the OfficeJet Pro 7720 is capable of up to 22 pages per minute in black and white (A4) and 18 pages per minute in color. It is a model with enough stamina for its price. Your cap is on a monthly cycle of up to 30,000 impressions. Regarding print quality, despite not reaching the levels of lasers, it offers us a remarkable professional finish.
Extendable tray
We have already advanced one of the interesting points of this team. Its tray can be lengthened to accommodate A3 documents. In this case, we will have to have the extra a few more centimeters. In either case, this tray has a maximum capacity of up to 250 pages . Just above, we have the outbox. This tray incorporates the typical plastic extensible stop that prevents the leaves from falling. Its capacity, in this case, is 75 sheets.
The use of this tray is quite intuitive thanks to its guides both on the sides and at the end.
Scan, Copy, and Fax on the HP OfficeJet Pro 7720
This is a complete multifunction printer. The HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 combines print with copy, scan and fax functionality . The automatic document feeder (ADF) can be used for both copying and faxing. This has a maximum capacity of 35 sheets.
The copy has a maximum speed of 34 copies per minute , both in color and black and white. Perhaps one of its most interesting additions is the duplex or double-sided. Something that is not so common in equipment with a price range of 200 euros. The maximum resolution of the copy is 600 dots per inch.
As for the scanner, the optical resolution is placed at 1,200 dpi. It is capable of scanning documents at speeds of up to 8 images per minute in both color and black and white. Finally, the machine's fax has a speed of 33.5 kbps and is capable of remembering up to 100 different numbers.
Small touch screen
To control all the basic functions of the printer, we can directly opt for its touch screen. It is a small 2.65-inch LCD panel. With its good part and its bad part.
For being so small, the truth is that the menu is very intuitive and the use of large icons greatly improves the experience. Thus, we can access the copy, scan, fax and applications functions in a few clicks. However, not everything is good in this interface. And is that access to the upper icons is more confusing in a first contact . It turns out that HP has opted for a model similar to the Android notification panel.
To access the top icons, first you have to drag your finger down. But this is not so obvious when you see these icons at a first glance. Once accustomed, its access is quite fast and in general the tactile response will give us few problems. From these icons you can access general options, network connection, ink levels or a silent mode to reduce noise from the equipment (among other features).
Mobile printing and connections
This SMB ink printer also brings versatility to the field of connections. The OfficeJet Pro 7720 has both WiFi and a slot for an Ethernet cable. In the first case, we will have a greater field of action by not having to connect the equipment by cable. A good solution to avoid having to walk pulling cable. While with the Ethernet cable, greater security and a more stable speed are sought when receiving documents.
The WiFi Direct connection will help us if, for example, someone outside the office has to print a document. And we don't want to give you the WiFi keys. In this case, the printer creates a direct connection to the device.
Neither could mobile printing be absent. The OfficeJet Pro 7720 is Mopria certified compliant . With this technology, what is sought is to facilitate the printing process from an Android mobile. Once the Mopria add-on is installed on the mobile, we can print directly from the app menus without the need for a dedicated app. Precisely, another of the available options is to use HP ePrint .
This app has a fairly complete interface and has been improved a lot in recent times. It is interesting to get hold of it to be able to scan directly from the smartphone.
Compact design for an A3 printer
Go ahead. This is an A3 printer, so a very compact design cannot be expected. The complete dimensions are 58.5 x 30.6 x 44.5 centimeters, along with a weight of 15.5 kilos . But it is one of the sacrifices that must be made if we want to get a team capable of printing in A3. Still, the OfficeJet Pro 7720 is not too bulky and can easily be a part of any office.

In its design, white has been combined with black. The front band in which the screen is housed also stands out, with a modern touch with small circular dots and dark gray color. This band also serves to house the place for the cartridges. What is surprising when opening the compartment is the apparent wasted space of the printer, since the tray for the cartridges occupies very little and we have a significant gap in the rest.
The construction is robust and quite practical. The screen can be moved so that it is tilted and it is easier to work when standing. The only big but is the lack of a direct USB port to be able to print directly from memory or save scans to the unit.
HP OfficeJet Pro 7720, price and opinions
The HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 can be purchased from mid-August for a price of 200 euros . In short, we are facing a very versatile model that perfectly fulfills its mission: to serve as a tool for everything in an SME or the office of a freelancer.
Balance is one of its great keys, since it does not stand out especially in any function but it does not have only weak points . It is true that you can miss a larger screen or the speeds of the Pro X, but in return we have A3 printing, scanning or double-sided copying. Without a doubt a very interesting purchase if you do not want to make a large outlay.
