Lenovo Yoga 530 or Lenovo Yoga 720, which one do I buy?

Lenovo Yoga 530 or Lenovo Yoga 720, which one do I buy?

You may be looking for a convertible to buy. This type of equipment is perfect for traveling or working outside the home comfortably, given its possibilities. Lenovo has in its catalog the Lenovo Yoga 530 and the Lenovo Yoga 720. Both have processors up to 8th generation Intel Core i7, good sound with Dolby Audio Premium and battery life of up to 10 hours. However, they present some notable differences such as in the screen, weight or accessories. While the Yoga 530 includes the Lenovo Active Pen digital ink pen, the Yoga 720 does the same, but with the second generation.

If you are interested in knowing in detail what exactly these teams are like because you are thinking of getting one of the two, do not stop reading. We help you get out of doubts.

Design and display

Both the Lenovo Yoga 530 and the Yoga 720 are manufactured in such a way that its panel is able to be rotated through a 360 degree angle to adapt it to the position we want. In this way, it is possible to use them as a laptop or tablet or even to place them fully stretched out on a table. At the design level, the Yoga 530 is built from polished aluminum. Its screen is surrounded by rather thin bezels. However, we cannot say that they are the ones we see on infinite screens. The lower frame is somewhat thicker, and during our tests with this equipment we had the feeling that the space could have been used better.

To all this we must add that this model is not what is said to be thin if we compare it with other rivals, something that the Yoga 720 does boast as we will explain a little later. It weighs exactly 1.6 kilos. Its exact dimensions are 328mm x 229mm x 17.6mm. This means that it is a little thicker than what Lenovo has used to us. In fact, the thickness of the Lenovo 720 stands at 13.9 millimeters. Therefore, in this sense the Lenovo Yoga 720 wins by a landslide. In addition, it is considered one of the lightest 2-in-1 models on the market. It only weighs 1.3 kilos, so it will accompany you without problems wherever you go. To this must be added that its design was awarded the iF Design Award. The Yoga 720 features a metallic chassis and can be found in different colors: silver, copper or steel gray.

With regard to the screen (touch) there are also slight differences. The one on the Lenovo Yoga 530 has a size of 14 inches. It can be chosen with an HD or Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1080 pixels. The one on the Yoga 720 is somewhat smaller. 13.3 inches to be exact with a Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels). At first glance the difference is not appreciated too much. You yourself will have to assess if you want to bet more on a somewhat smaller panel, although winning a lighter and more portable equipment.

Power and memory

Inside the Lenovo Yoga 530 there is room for 8th generation Intel Core processors. In Spain at the moment only two models with Intel Core i3 or i5 are marketed. However, there is a version with Intel Core i7, which we hope will reach our country at some point. These SoCs are accompanied by 4, 8 or 16 GB of memory. In any case, currently from the official website in Spain it is only possible to reach 4 GB. The storage capacity offered is 128, 256 or 512 GB in SSD format. The two models of the Yoga 530 that are sold in our country only reach up to 128 GB.

Similarly, the Lenovo Yoga 720 also boasts of power and performance thanks to processors up to 8th generation Intel Core i7. Unlike the Yoga 530, we can get this version in Spain, although it should be mentioned that you will have to pay just over 1,600 euros for it. If you do not have this money, do not worry because it is also possible to buy a model with an Intel Core i5. In this case, the price starts at 750 euros. The RAM memory of the Yoga 720 can be expanded up to a maximum of 12 GB. It is also available with 4 and 8 GB of RAM. The storage it offers is also 128GB, 256GB or 512GB SATA SSD.

Accessories and safety

The Lenovo Yoga 530 and 720 are optionally included with the Lenovo Active Pen, a stylus with which to take notes or write more quickly and easily. Of course, in the case of the Yoga 720 it comes with the second generation of this accessory, to which new functions have been added and it is somewhat more precise. This tool can detect 4,096 degrees of pressure. Therefore, the strokes will be fast and accurate. The company has also included palm rejection technology. In this way, you can enjoy a natural writing experience. Basically the same one we have on paper. Another of the virtues of this pencil is that it is possible to use Windows Ink (a function located on the taskbar). This function will allow us to capture quick ideas, as well as to reformat the notes or send them to other devices.

Another of the great advantages that we want to highlight about convertibles is that they are designed to reinforce security. Both the Lenovo Yogga 530 and the Yoga 720 have an optional integrated fingerprint reader. The goal is that you don't have to worry about remembering your password or making secure payments online. With just a tap of your finger, you can log in and make purchases through Windows Hello. Your personal information will never leave the computer, as this duo has three layers of security.

Connections and autonomy

When it comes to using a computer, we all want to have a large number of options when it comes to connecting. Lenovo convertibles more than do this. For example, the Yoga 720 integrates a USB Type-C port and an always-on USB for charging. There is also a headphone port, as well as 2 x 2 WiFi 802.11 ac and Bluetooth 4.1 connection. At the sound level, the Yoga 720 is quite productive thanks to its Harman speakers with Dolby audio technology. This means that there will be no problem when we want to listen to movies, series or our favorite music with Spotify.

The Yoga 530 is not far behind in this section and also includes a good bunch of connection options. This model has two USB ports of type 3.0, in addition to a USB type C port. This connector has become the standard within mobile devices, and is increasingly present in laptops. Among its main advantages we can mention that it doubles the speed of full-size USB 3.0, so data transfers will be much faster. The Lenovo Yoga 530 also incorporates an HDMI port to view the content on a television or monitor. Likewise, it is also compatible with the WiFi AC protocol and has Bluetooth. There is also a 4-in-1 card reader.

With regard to the battery of the convertibles, Lenovo ensures between 8 and 10 hours of autonomy. Logically, these figures are always usually somewhat lower than those given by the manufacturers. In addition, everything will always depend on the configuration established or the use that is given to it. In any case, it should be noted that they have fast charging, so, at a bad time, we can charge them in more than half in a very short time. This is always appreciated if we have to run away from home, or if we are out and take advantage of a small stop to feed them for a while.

Price and reviews

As we discussed a little above, the Lenovo Yoga 530 is only available to buy in Spain with Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i3 processors. At the moment, the model with a Core i7 is not for sale in our country. The price of the first is almost 600 euros, while the second can be purchased for 510 euros. For its part, the Lenovo Yoga 720 is for sale with an Intel Core i7 processor, at a price of 1,650 euros on Amazon. We have located the model with Core i5 in PC Components for only 750 euros, a price that is not bad at all and guarantees power and performance to work with tools or navigate.

As you may have seen, the two convertibles are very similar. Deciding on one or the other will depend a lot if you are looking for a really light device with a somewhat smaller screen. In this case, we recommend the Yoga 720. In addition, as you already know, you also have the possibility of buying it with more processor, if you are especially interested in having an Intel Core i7 SoC. In any case, neither of them will disappoint you, especially if you are looking for an adaptable, powerful device with good sound quality. Finally, it must be added that both are governed by Windows 10, the latest version of Microsoft's platform. Therefore, they will be able to execute functions such as the Cortana assistant or make use of the new Microsoft Edge browser, which came to replace the traditional Internet Explorer.
