After the release of Windows 10 update 1903, not a few users have reported an error when updating the system in the respective Microsoft community forums. Most of these errors are usually related to "stops" and pauses during the update process, which forces the computer to restart to stop the installation and later access the system. Fortunately, there are several solutions that allow us to recover Windows if there has been an update error, and this time we will see some of them.
Stop Windows 10 updates manually
To return your computer to normal after an update failure, the best way to avoid future headaches is to stop system updates manually .
The process is as simple as accessing the Windows 10 services, which are accessed by pressing the Windows + R key combination and typing the following command in the search box:
Once inside the program, a window similar to this one will appear:
The next step to temporarily disable updates is to search for the Windows Update service . Then, we will right click on it and we will click Properties.
Finally, we will stop the process in question through the Stop button and select the Disabled option in Startup type in the same General section as the stop button.
The next thing we will have to do is apply the changes and save them in the Apply and OK buttons. After this, we will delete the updates that have caused an error in Windows 10 in the following path:
- C: / Windows / SoftwareDistribution / Downloads
Once inside the Downloads folder, we will delete all the existing folders and files through the usual method granting them the appropriate user permissions.
Finally, we will restart the system and re-enable the Windows Update process by selecting the Manual option in Startup type.
And download the updates by yourself
The usual process to update Windows is to use the Windows Update application. In case the Windows 10 update error comes derived from it, we can download and install the updates manually .
The process from now on is as simple as waiting for Windows to download the updates. After this, we will click on Restart now and they will automatically be installed on the computer. This time with no apparent errors.
If the above didn't work ...
In the event that the above has not worked, we can use an external tool to fix the Windows 10 update error called WinUpdateToggler , which we can download from this link.
After unzipping the containing folder, we will right click on the EXE file and run the program with administrator privileges. The program window should look like this:
To disable the updates, we will click on the respective keys 1, 2 and 3 . Finally we will mark 4 so that all the changes are applied and we will eliminate the updates following the previous process.
In the event that we want to update the equipment again, we will have to follow the reverse process to re-enable the updates or resort to the Windows 10 installer.
