Last June, Amazon launched its renting service in Spain to rent cars temporarily for a fee whose price varies depending on the model and rental time. It has come to Spain with the name Amazon Motors , and today the company has cars from BMW, Ford, Jaguar, SEAT, Renault, Alfa Romeo, Nissan and even Tesla.
The platform also allows us to switch between different types of vehicles: from hybrids and electric to SUVs and sedans. How does this service work? How much does it cost to rent a car on Amazon? Who takes care of the maintenance? Let's see what the US-based company offers.

First of all, how much does renting a car cost?
Like any other Amazon product, the price of renting a car varies depending on its range, the final rental time and the mileage that we are going to do on an annual basis.
Something that we must bear in mind is that Amazon sets the maximum and minimum rental time . By having a limited fleet of cars, the company limits the number of months that we can rent a certain model of vehicle, an amount that is usually specified in the title itself or in the name of the item in question.
Starting from this premise, we will use three examples to assess the average rental price: a 2018 BMW Series 3 with a 318d diesel engine , a 2018 Fiat 500 Lounge with a 1.2 gasoline engine and a 2018 Ford Fiesta with a 1.5 TDCi diesel engine .
In the first case, the monthly value that we will have to pay for rent is 477 euros (395 euros without VAT) . This price corresponds to the unit with 48 months of renting and 10,000 kilometers per year. If we opt for a higher mileage (15,000 kilometers, 20,000…), the price will vary depending on the quantity.
If we talk about the Fiat car, the Italian group's single-seater is offered at a price of 200 euros (165 euros without VAT) for a maximum period of 36 months and an annual mileage of 10,000 kilometers. We can opt again for options of 15,000 and 20,000 kilometers.
As for the Ford car, the amount set by Amazon is 225 euros per month . The price of this unit includes 36 months of renting and 10,000 kilometers per year. Again we can opt for options with a higher mileage number.
What is the final rental price of the three examples that we have just exposed? About 23,000 euros in the case of the BMW Series 3 , about 7,200 euros in the case of the Fiat 500 Lounge and about 8,100 euros in the case of the Ford Fiesta . Practically the total value of all vehicles on the second hand market.
I want to rent a car from Amazon, how is the payment and hiring done?
By depending on third-party dealers, the contracting and payment of the service is carried out in a fractional manner .
At the time of hiring a rental vehicle, we will have to sign a credit agreement with the dealer affiliated with Amazon . This contract will be sent via email using the main address of our Amazon account.
Prior to signing the contract with the dealer, we will have to fill in a series of data (bank account number, level of income and expenses ...) for the service to assess the economic solvency of our profile. If the dealer determines that we are eligible, payment for the service will be made as follows:
- First monthly payment: payment to Amazon Motors
- Rest of monthly payments : payment to the affiliated dealer
To the aforementioned economic requirements we will have to add a couple: be at least 21 years old and have a 2-year license . If we comply with all the imperatives, we can contract the service without any problem.

Insurance, maintenance, limitation, fines ... There are many doubts in relation to the Amazon renting service. Let's see some of the most recurring.
Do I have to take out insurance?
No. The renting service includes third party insurance that covers any accident or natural wear and tear of the vehicle. Unfortunately, we will have to pay a maximum amount of 150 euros per damaged part in case of damage to the vehicle by accident or 450 euros if at the end of the contract, after an expert assessment, damages that exceed natural wear are detected .
Can I return the car before the estimated time?
With the contracting of the service, 30 days of free return are included in which we can return the vehicle at no additional cost as long as it has not exceeded 50 kilometers through the My orders section. If we want to return the vehicle after 30 days, we will have to contact the rental service directly.
Who takes care of the car maintenance?
Reviews, failures, inspections ... Any additional service will be processed by the renting company itself. To request a review we will have to access the My Amazon orders section or go to the original website of the company .
What happens if I exceed the contracted mileage?
The conditions of the service admit up to an excess of 10% in the total rental time over the maximum contracted mileage.
If we contract 10,000 kilometers per year for three years, the maximum excess will be 3,000 kilometers . In case of exceeding this amount, we will have to pay an amount that will be specified in the final contract. The latter varies depending on the mileage and the car model.
Can you drive outside of Spain?
Yes, as long as it is within the 40 European countries recognized in the Green Card provided at the time of hiring the vehicle.
What about fines?
As the rental company is the maximum responsible for the vehicle, the fines will be sent to the latter . Subsequently, they will be forwarded to the client for subsequent payment at the respective authorities. In no case will this imply an additional cost in the final price of the monthly payment.
Can you smoke inside the car?
Negative. Otherwise, a cleaning penalty must be paid, which will vary depending on the car model.
