Renfe announced in 2016 the inclusion of WiFI connectivity in the high-speed line (AVE), very positive news for travelers, which also came with some and other cons, such as a connectivity plan limited to 20 MB, and the most important : with a price plan or with the Renfe card. Years later, Renfe began to offer this connection free of charge to all passengers on the Madrid to Barcelona line.

The free WiFI, operated by Movistar (Telefónica), will start from today, April 1. And it is present in 70 percent of the trains that run through Madrid - Barcelona and in the coming months the entire fleet will be covered. The connection will have some limitations. For the user who travels in economy class, they will have a 20 MB plan, while for the user who travels in business class or + Renfe Oro / Premium it will be 100 MB. The difference with respect to the previous plans is not only the free service, but there will be no spending limit. Of course, the navigation will be 20 or 100 MB respectively.

The WiFi connection will be made through the PlayRenfe platform, an app available on iOS and Android that will allow us to configure the connection in our terminal and also access different free content, such as series or movies. Again, the Premium plan will offer exclusive content, such as live broadcasting. According to Renfe, this new implementation will benefit more than 4.3 million travelers per year. The WiFi connection will be active throughout the journey.
