It is called Samsung Galaxy Core 2 and as its name suggests, is the second generation of this legendary smartphone from Samsung. The Korean company has just presented it together with a large collection of entry-level devices, developed for those users who want to enjoy a smart mobile phone that meets their needs, without having to spend all their savings on the effort. The Samsung Galaxy Core 2 is equipped with a large 4.5-inch screen and a processor with up to four cores , ready to offer optimal performance.
In addition, it is a smartphone with a double SIM card slot , a detail that will appeal to the busiest users: those who want to carry two phone lines on the same device. With a light design and pleasant to the touch , the Samsung Galaxy Core 2 stands as the perfect alternative for those who do not want to give up elegance and shapes. Next, we thoroughly analyze the technical sheet of the new Samsung Galaxy Core 2 .
Design and display
The new Samsung Galaxy Core 2 strictly complies with the design line proposed by its previous edition, the Samsung Galaxy Core . With a slightly grid pattern, it has dimensions of 130.3 x 68 x 9.8 mm and weighs about 138 grams battery included. In short, it would be a fairly comfortable device to carry in any pocket and handle with one hand. The screen retains all its prominence, extending part of the front surface, although there is still space for the buttons that give access to the main menu, applications and the action that allows us to go back. As is usual in most smartphonesfrom Samsung , the Samsung Galaxy Core 2 is presented in two colors as different as they are classic: black and white, finished off on a completely made of plastic housing .
The screen measures 4.5 inches , so we are facing completely normal dimensions. Presents, moreover, a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and a density of up to 207 dots per inch . This will allow us to enjoy a good image quality when playing multimedia content (videos, images) or enjoying video games.
Camera and multimedia
The Samsung Galaxy Core 2 has an integrated camera of normal quality. It has a 5 megapixel sensor that will allow us to obtain images up to 2592 x 1944 pixels maximum. Luckily, Samsung has integrated into this tool different functions such as the LED Flash , geotagging , touch focus or the face and smile detector . As if this were not enough, Samsung has decided to install on this computer some of the functions that until now we have only seen in its most cutting-edge computers. We refer to Sound & Shot, Best Shot and Best Photo. This same camera will offer us the possibility of recording video, even in 480p @ 30fps quality . There is, however, a second camera that we find installed on the front of the computer and that has a VGA resolution . It will be very useful to record video and take self-portraits or selfies , if you are interested in this format.
This same team will help us to play multimedia content in most compatible formats. This includes music, video and photo files in the following extensions: MPEG4, H.264, H.263, VC-1, WMV7 / 8, VP8, Sorenson Spark, MP3, OGG, AAC, AACï¼ ‹, eAAC＋, WMA , FLAC and AMR-NB / WB, which are those specified in their technical data sheet. However, in addition to enjoying their own content that the user has saved in the memory of their terminal or on the card, there is the possibility of accessing services to play streaming content such as YouTube or Spotify .
Memory and power
The Samsung Galaxy Core 2 is a phone equipped with a fairly basic memory. We have to talk about 4 GB of internal storage that we can use to store all kinds of content (music, videos, applications, documents, etc.), with the possibility of expanding it with microSD memory cards . The maximum supported, in this case, is 64 GB . And we have good news regarding its potential. And is that the smartphone works through a processor with quad-core architecture at 1.2 GHz , prepared to offer good performance when executing applications, programs or even video games. RAM memory is not so good data . And is that theSamsung Galaxy Core 2 is presented with just 768 MB . It would have been desirable for Samsung to provide this smartphone with at least 1 GB . In this sense, it is best not to overload the computer with many applications and content. Only in this way will we be able to maintain good performance for as long as possible.
Operating system and applications
How could it be otherwise, the Samsung Galaxy Core 2 is equipped with the Android operating system , with the advantage of having the latest version of the Google platform . We are referring, logically, to Android 4.4.2 KitKat , although like all the company's terminals it has Samsung's own interface and access to its main services / applications. This includes Samsung ChatON and Samsung Apps , plus cool tools like Samsung S Translator, S Travel, Smart Stay, S Voice, Easy Mode, and Pop Up Play . As if this were not enough and as a good android terminal, thisSamsung Galaxy Core 2 comes equipped with a large part of the applications that give access to the main Google services . This includes Google Search, Google Maps with Navigation, Gmail, Google+, YouTube or Picasa , in addition to Google Play , the application store that the Mountain View company makes available to its customers to expand and improve the operation of their smartphone .
The new Samsung Galaxy Core 2 presents a good performance in the connectivity section. We can indicate, according to its data sheet, that it is compatible with 3G networks , which will guarantee the user good access to the Internet with transfer rates HSDPA of 21 Mbps and HSUPA of 5.76 Mbps . This means that we have a good capacity for downloading data and browsing between pages. However, the device also responds with wireless connectivity for WiFi 802.11 b / g / n networks , as well as for extra functions such as WiFi Hotspot (the tool that allows us to anchor different devices to our 3G connection ), Bluetooth 4.0and aGPS with GLONASS .
In the section on physical connections, we must have the minimum: a microUSB 2.0 input , essential if we want to synchronize data or charge the battery of the equipment; one output 3.5 mm headphone jack for listening to music in silence and a double slot to accommodate up to two SIM cards , which will take us two phone lines in one device.
We see interesting improvements in the battery section. And it is that the Samsung Galaxy Core 2 is equipped with a lithium ion battery with up to 2,000 milliamps capacity. This means that it will be able to offer us a fairly comfortable autonomy, of at least one day at full capacity. However, it should be noted that this capacity could be modified by different external factors such as the type of functions that we have active, the use that each user makes of the different tools and applications, the status of the battery, the temperature or the network connections .
There is still nothing written about its availability. However, taking into account that the Samsung Galaxy Core landed on the Spanish market, it would not be strange if we could see this second version soon in our country. It is likely that its price could be around 170 euros in the free market , although we will have to wait for the official statement from Samsung Spain to specify the specific conditions of the launch, as well as its pricing plans.
