HP Officejet Pro 6830, we've tested it

HP Officejet Pro 6830

Printer Officejet Pro 6830 from HP is a team of inkjet SMEs . The American company continues with its proposal for equipment with this technology that offers similar performance to ink equipment, but also promises significant savings in paper and consumable costs. The  HP Officejet Pro 6830 has speeds of up to 18 ppm in black and white and 10 ppm in color , integrates a touch screen to easily control its functions and has a copier, scanner and fax. All this with several advanced connectivity and mobile printing options to get the most out of this equipment in the office. This HP printer can be found for a price of 160 euros . We tell you our impressions after having tried it.

HP Officejet Pro 6830

Regular office printing

The  HP Officejet Pro 6830 is a printer designed for regular office printing. It is a team that reaches speeds of up to 18 pages per minute in black and white and 10 pages per minute in color, figures that are in the average for the office environment. The speed with which the first print comes out is 14 seconds for a black and white document and 17 seconds for color. We said that this model is designed for common printing tasks because it has a maximum endurance of 15,000 impressions per month. As always, the manufacturer recommends a stay in impressions between 200 and 800 pagesmonthly so that the equipment holds up well throughout its lifetime.

The finished prints have a maximum quality of 4,800 x 1,200 dpi with HP photo paper , although in standard quality it offers a good professional result similar to that of laser printers. Despite being an ink printer, the American company has developed this technology to the point that this equipment can offer us significant savings in cost per page and energy consumption (up to 50% in both cases compared to laser printers of the same price range). All this with automatic double-sided printing , a very interesting feature to save on paper costs.

HP Officejet Pro 6830

Touch control and printing via mobile

The  HP Officejet Pro 6830 incorporates a touch screen of small size of 6.75 centimeters . But although its use is somewhat more uncomfortable than on larger screens, today it is difficult to find proposals in the market that can compete with the simplicity and agility of handling these models for SMEs. The screen is divided into several large icons to access the main copy, fax and scan functions. If we drag our finger we will also have access to other functions such as printable HP templates or photos that we have inserted through a USB memory. At the bottom we also have several icons for quick access to other functions such as ECO modeor network settings . It's easy to get used to these menus after a few minutes without having to go around searching for the available options.

But in addition to this intuitive menu, another point in which HP has taken great care is in the available connections. The  HP Officejet Pro 6830 can be connected to the network both via Ethernet cable and via WiFi . In addition, we have several options to print remotely and through a mobile. On the one hand, we have HP ePrint technologydeveloped for a few years by the American company. Its operation is simple. We have to register the printer and it receives a unique email address. Then, we can print from anywhere in the world and any device with a network connection by just sending an email to the address with the document we want to print as an attachment (it can be in the most common formats such as DOC or PDF or JPEG images ) .

Another option available is to use the dedicated HP app for Android smartphones and tablets , or through Apple Print technology if we use an iPhone or iPad . But perhaps the option that should be highlighted the most is its compatibility with Mopria . This technology, which has been developed by several major manufacturers, consists of creating a common protocol so that users do not have to download any type of app. In this way, users with a smartphone or tablet from Android 4.4 KitKat can enter the contextual menu of the browser or another app and send a job to print once they are on the same networkWiFi , without the need to install any dedicated app from the manufacturer. Without a doubt, an important advance that makes mobile printing much easier.

Layout and paper tray

Within the field of design, it must be said that it is a somewhat elongated printer with a flattened appearance , which is easy to install in an office. The American company maintains its commitment to the more formal black color, although in this team it is combined with a dark gray that gives it some contrast. We especially liked the area in which the 6.75-centimeter touch screen is integrated , which protrudes slightly from the equipment and has a shiny glass-like coating that gives it a differentiating touch. Another point that should be highlighted is the easy access to the USB memory slot on the left side of the front area (something that some manufacturers do not usually take care of, oddly enough). The full dimensions of the HP Officejet Pro 6830 stands at 46.1 x 38.7 x 22.4 centimeters and its weight rises to 8 kilos.

Paper management starts from a standard 225-sheet input tray , while the output tray holds a maximum of 60 sheets. The supported formats vary between folios, photographic paper, cards, card stock and envelopes, with a weight between 60 and 280grs.

Copier, fax and scanner

The HP printer also has copier, scanner and fax functions , which provide greater versatility. In the first case, we can reach maximum speeds of up to 10 copies per minute in black and white and 7 pages per minute in color , with a maximum resolution of 600 dpi . As usual, we can reduce the document up to 25% or enlarge it up to 400%. The scanner function has an optical resolution of 1,200 dpi and speeds of up to 5 ipm in black and white and 2.8 ipm in color . Professionals can convert scanned documents into various formats, including JPEG imagesor PDF documents with automatic text recognition. Finally, the fax function has a speed of up to 4 seconds per page and a maximum quality of 300 x 300 dpi.

Price and reviews

The price of the  HP Officejet Pro 6830 amounts to 160 euros . In short, it seems to us a very balanced proposal that does not clash at any point, with average printing speeds, a fairly agile control through its touch screen and magnificent connectivity options. All this in a compact format that facilitates its installation in the office and that can be used perfectly for a small SME that does not have a lot of printing load.
