Brother MFC-9340CDW, we have tested it

The Brother MFC-9340CDW multifunction printer  is a laser machine with print, copy, scan and fax capabilities , aimed at small and medium-sized businesses. It is a very balanced and compact device that has good printing speeds with LED technology of up to 22 pages per minute and that stands out for the possibility of using the double-sided function both in printing and in the scanner and copier. Another of the strengths is its touch interface , which is inspired by mobile platforms and which is quite intuitive and attractive to use. We have had the opportunity to thoroughly test this Brother machine. We tell you our conclusions.

Printing and paper

Your Brother machine uses color LED printing technology . It has print speeds of up to 22 pages per minute in both color and black and white . When using the double-sided printing function included in this machine, the speed drops to seven sides per minute (three and a half sheets per minute). The time it takes for the equipment to make the first print is under sixteen seconds. Regarding the resolution of the print, the maximum is 2,400 x 600 dots per inch , a figure that will allow you to have documents with good quality. One of the details that we liked is that the printer is capable of printing in monochromeat the time one of the toners is used up. An emergency solution that allows us to not be stranded when it is necessary to print or copy a document.

It is a printer designed for SMEs that do not have very large workloads. The limit of impressions per month is up to 30,000 pages , but it is a team that is designed to provide a monthly work volume of between 500 and 1,500 pages per month.

The Brother MFC-9340CDW has a 250-sheet paper input tray . In addition, it includes an automatic document feeder in the upper part with a capacity for up to 35 sheets and that allows us to carry out scanning and copying tasks. We also have a one-sheet manual feed slot on the front of the machine. For the output of sheets we have an output area with a capacity of up to 100 sheets. At this point it is surprising that the traditional tray has not been opted for to prevent pages from falling out in longer jobs.

Design

This MFP features a compact design. Black dominates on the front panel (where different parts of the printer are located, such as the paper input tray, manual feed slot, touch screen, and paper output tray). Meanwhile, the rest of the printer uses white. Without being a surprising design or as beautiful as those we have seen in the latest inkjet equipment of the company, it fulfills its function of not taking up much space in the office or office. The specific dimensions of the team are  41 x 48.3 x 41 centimeters and its weight amounts to 18.8 kilos.We wanted to highlight here the weight of the touch screen when handling the multifunction equipment, and that it allows you to work without having to connect the device to a computer. Its size is 9.3 centimeters diagonal, enough to see its contents without problems but it can be somewhat small. We also like the detail of keeping the numeric dialer off until the moment you start using the fax.

Copy, scan and fax

Besides printing function, we also have copier, scanner and fax. In all these functions, the possibility of using the duplex function stands out , a feature that is not usually found in multifunction equipment in this price range. As for the copier, we have a speed of 22 copies per minute in color and black and white. As usual, we can enlarge or reduce the copy in a range between 25% and 400%. The copy resolution is 600 x 600 dpi.

On the other hand, the scanner achieves an optical resolution of 1,200 x 2,400 dpi and has different options such as sending the document directly to a folder or using the character recognition OCR function , to be able to directly edit the text of the file. Finally, it incorporates a standard 33.6 kbps fax .

Consumables and consumption

To make your job easier without having to change your machine's toners often, the Brother MFC-9340CDW can include the company's high-capacity toners, which offer a yield of up to 2,200 pages in the colors of cyan, magenta and yellow and that They are priced at 96 euros. The black toner, meanwhile, has a more affordable price of 68 euros and can print up to 2,500 pages. Finally, the drums of the equipment offer a yield of up to 15,000 pages (per toner) and are priced at 105 euros.

On the consumption side, the Brother machine reaches a maximum of 380W in operation and 70W when it is ready. This expense drops to 7.5W at rest.

Connectivity

One of the strengths of this printer is its connectivity. The connection to the Internet can be made both through WiFi and by cable through your Ethernet connection . This versatility allows you to connect the equipment in any corner of the office or office. It also incorporates a USB port on the front to work directly with the printer without using a computer.

Brother has its own app for iOS and Android that will allow us to print documents remotely, called iPrint & Scan . It's generally quite acceptable performance, but you still need to do more interface work to get closer to the quality of your printer's own touch interface.

Interface and applications

Brother has introduced inside its Brother MFC-9340CDW the same touch interface that we find in the inkjet equipment that was launched a few months ago on the market. As we said at the time, this platform is an important asset that stands out for its intuitive handling and for the simplicity with which the different printer options are accessed. Of course, it is missing that the company had opted for a slightly larger touch screen taking into account the dimensions of the equipment.

One of the most attractive options of this interface is the ability to establish shortcuts to different specific functions of the equipment. For example, we can configure the equipment to send a scanned document to Dropbox with one button . Or print a document directly in draft quality and double-sided. In total, 18 different shortcuts can be configured . In addition, we have two back keys and back to the main menu page that are reminiscent of systems like Android .

The Brother printer also integrates access to various web applications to work with them directly, without having to go through the computer. So, for example, we can scan a file and send it directly to Dropbox or Google Drive. The printer is also compatible with the Evernote productivity tool , SkyDrive and Box storage systems, and Picasa, Facebook and Flickr social media .

Price and reviews

The price of the Brother MFC-9340CDW is 450 euros, a competitive figure for a multifunction printer of these characteristics and that reinforces its clear vocation to the world of SMEs. We found this team to be a fairly reliable printer, with balanced specifications and a fairly competitive price. Two aspects stand out above the others: on the one hand, its touch screen and the interface that Brother has deployed in recent months, very intuitive and accessible. On the other hand, the duplex capacity that has been deployed in both printing and copying and scanning, and which puts it ahead of other laser printers in the same range.
